Had a great weekend with Ali... Watched The Hangover which was HILARIOUS. I love Zach Galifianakis.
Cried while watching Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble perform yesterday.. These singers from Azerbaijan absolutely rocked my soul.
ONLY 4 DAYS until Ali and I fly to San Francisco to visit her brother. We'll be there 'til Monday morning. CAN'T WAIT. We're gonna go to a Giants game and eat good food and play wiffleball, among other fun activities. Ali's brother and I get along swimmingly.
Read Vonnegut's Mother Night last week. So. Depressing. Good lord. I mean, it was a good book, but soul-crushing in its ambivalent despair. Thank goodness I'd read Terry Pratchett's Nation just before that, which was one of the most uplifting books I've read in a long time.
Now reading Raymond Chandler's The Big Sleep... and just ordered a few of his other Philip Marlowe stories.
In related news, I've been struck lately to get back to writing my novel... Reading so much has certainly helped, especially the Chandler, since my story is a detective noir of sorts. Just gotta make sure I don't start copycatting his style.
Life is good. Now I just need a car and a degree and a better job. But don't sweat the small stuff, and it's all small stuff.
