Would you like Lobster with that?

So, my first week as Smitty's has gone pretty good. I was a hostess for the first two days, and then immediately started training to serve. Training is kind of annoying, I feel dumb following someone around all day and having them explain to me how toast is made.... but otherwise it's not bad. I have had a few of my own tables that I have completely taken care of on my own. It sucks though because I don't get the tips from them. But on Sunday I will be officially on my own.

I'm nervous that I won't have the menu memorized enough. My manager quizzed me on it after my shift today and she said I knew a lot more than she thought I did and was doing really well... but still. I suppose though, because I am really comfortable talking to strangers and the "witty banter" part of the job... it can't be that awful if I mess something up... because I will have already won them over with my personality. That sounded lame.

Anyway... I am going to be working there probably around 30 hours a week. At least that is what she quoted me. I did some calculations and with tips... that is significantly more than what I would have made at the call centre.

I am going to have a chat with my manager though tomorrow if I get the chance to get a better idea from her of what my weekly schedule is going to be like... if it is going to be at least somewhat consistent... and therefore, if I can get a second job.

I figure... I can sleep when I'm dead.

Even if I work 55 hours a week and it makes me crazy... if I can somehow make it work where both companies are happy.... and I can make enough money to live comfortably AND start to pay down some of my debt... I can sleep a happy lady. I have a HUGE debt that I have come to realize I cannot pay down with piano lessons and wedding gigs... waiting tables for the time being.. if it pays the bills is fine by me.

For those of you who have worked that many hours (usually in a summer)... how easily is it done? How much did you want to kill yourself?
