It came to me in a splash

Walk

The rain rattled hard against his skin and he peered out at the dark world from within.

Wind scudded leaves around in curves their wet surfaces catching the street lights from time to time with a distant flash as he pushed through the world. A man stepped out of a shop to his right hood up eyes down and bag clasped tight. Secure within he watched aware of opportunities either for comedy, discourse or violence from this shopper yet nothing occurred as they fell away behind him. For some while cars purred past their passage more felt than seen as he strode on then he reached the trees.

Some distance under the canopy his armour, his minds solitude dissolved and he opened himself.

The wind and rain span past and through him each gust danced within, cold wet leaves slapped at his bare hands playfully as each breath drew new scents down and the darkness drew him out of himself.

Time passed.

The street lights were bright and very yellow, catching the spars rain drops as they fell sideways. Drivers negotiated the parked cars and slippery street with varied aptitude as he watched them. A pair of women still breathing hard from their run plodded past smiling as they chatted and he felt the echo of joy in himself that such expressions kindled. Adding to what he already felt.

It was a cold dark night.
