A walk to the beach and back hasn't improved matters much. Obvious predicament aside, he's become aware that he's no long accustomed to moving in this body. His posture's entirely wrong, the tilt of the chin absurd. His limbs feel not only ready but eager to move in several directions at once ( Read more... )

Sookie slept long and hard. When she woke up, her clothes didn't fit right anymore.

After the first bout of confusion and fear, she headed into the kitchen to get something to eat. The way the seat of her shorts sags bothers her a lot more than it probably should, but it's esier to worry about that than anything else. There are kids everywhere, only it turns out they aren't really kids, they only look like kids. Oh ho ho ho, the island with a sense of humor.

Sookie at fourteen is nowhere near as full-figured as Sookie at twenty-six. She has to find another pair of shorts that won't be a constant reminder of how big her ass apparently is these days. Maybe the clothes box will be merciful.

"Uh. Hello?"

She doesn't recognize him at first.

Even in those few syllables, her accent is recognizable. Hoping against hope that his ears mistake him, Alan looks up from the pair of beige corduroys the box has seen fit to provide.

He flushes and immediately looks away.

"Mr. Shore?!"

There's something so very wrong about him looking so... so young.

"As charged." He can't meet her eyes.

Oh. My. Gosh.

"Are you okay?" She doesn't know what to say so she says the first stupid thing that pops into her head. Whatever had happened to her body hadn't hurt her. She hopes it was the same for him.

"Fine." Now he looks at Sookie, since the alternative seems to be her flying into a panic. "I like what you've done with your hair."

After struggling to smile, he returns his attention to the pants.

She walks over to the box, unable to take her eyes off his hair.

"You're so blond!" It's possible that he's blonder than she is. How strange is that?

Alan swallows. "Yes, I was. I try to play it down."

He can't imagine what she must think of him right now.

She's so busy goggling at his youthfulness that she walks painfully into the edge of a table.

"Ow!"

That's going to leave a bruise.

He reaches her side much more quickly than he'd have expected, touches her on the arm. "Are you all right?"

"I'm fine," she says, a little flustered. "Just clumsy."

Sookie reaches blindly into the clothes box, too aware of him standing there. She immediately pulls out an ugly pair of polyester jogging shorts, robin's egg blue with white piping. No thanks.

"Most fetching," he says, because inspecting the shorts is the one activity that involves neither he looking at her nor she looking at him.

"How old..." There isn't any way to conclude the sentence. How old are you? How old is that body you're in?

"Are you kiddin'?! They're polyester! Gross!"

She chucks them at him without thinking.

"About fourteen, I think." If she knew what size bra to look for, that might help pinpoint how old, but the fact that she doesn't absolutely need one yet is a clue. Well, not entirely. Still. She wishes her bra fit, dammit! She's worn one since she was twelve and she just isn't comfortable without one on. At least her shirt is dark, if somewhat ill-fitting.

Not that she's going to explain any of that to him.

He catches them easily and cracks a smile.

"Fourteen's not so bad." He's still older than her. Probably. "You're old enough to sit in the front seat."

She sticks her tongue out at him. "Are you old enough t' drive?"

Even if he says yes, she isn't entirely sure she'll believe him.

He's so young!

"Find me a car and we'll see." He continues sifting through clothes, but now the task is undertaken for no other reason than to occupy his hands.

"I must be...eighteen?"
