Askavi, Airports, ICU, Bastian, Bekah, not all in that order

Jan 02, 2009 22:12

Sooo. Today has sucked, largely because I didn't sleep enough last night. It's been a great day in the abstract, but I'm exhausted and I don't think I'll be sleeping before 4 am tonight.

Bekah's grandmother is in the ICU - so she's gone with her mother to dallas.
Sebastian celebrated her being gone by throwing up on her pillow, and me.
Work was at least calm.
Then I went to pick up the kitten (yay kitten) from IAH.

His plane was supposed to arrive 4:56 our time. That didn't happen. The cargo pickup isn't at the main terminal, and thus has no seating or anything similar. After being told the plane was delayed in atlanta due to "mechanical failure forced grounding" - no that is not reassuring - I was informed it was now in the air and would be in IAH at or around 7. So with 2 hours to kill, I turned on what charm I had and asked the grumpy looking girl behind the desk what I could do. She had loads of suggestions, not the least of which was the strongly implied go drinking and carousing. I thanked her for the directions to the mall, and headed that way. At the mall (deerbrook?) I got to see a white rent a cop outrun by a black teenager/thief, who in turn was run down and flying tackled by a small asian woman, weighing maybe 80 lbs. That surreal manga like moment was the highlight of the experience. I had starbucks, I bought some anne-mccaffery to replace some deeply worn out AMC and I read in the coffee shop. I was, entertained. I called back at around 6:40, and they told me the flight had hit a patch of bad weather and would I mind coming by around 9. No problem, deerbrook has ninjas. I read some more mccaffery, and kept my eyes out for shinobi. At about 8:40 I finished my coffee (well my second coffee) and tucked my book away, then went to pick up Askavi, who at this point had had quite enough thank you of the delta experience, and was expressing himself loudly to anyone who might listen. The girl (from before) said he was a sweetheart and that she knew just how he felt. He, being a natural, purred for her. I suspect bengals in her future.

The trip home was a bit loud to start, but I found that if I petted his carrier and purred under my breath in between double base thrums that he calmed down. I left a few phone messages, called bekah to let him meow at her, and made it home safe and sound. Bastian was thrilled to see that he hadn't been abandoned, and I managed to sneak askavi into the closet with no issue. Then I went and paid attention to bastian until he was blissed out and happy. About the time he flipped over to "ok leave me be, I'll just drift" I figured it was safe to go see askavi (who I'd poured litter/food/water for, but not cuddled yet.) Askavi was happy to see a human "Excellent, a servant!" and seems content with the room.

I've unplugged the fan/lamp we thought might be ok for him - he's trying to chew on cords and I don't want to deal with fried kitty, but asside from that oversight he's happy. His purr is ridiculous. For a moment bastian and he were purring at the same time and it was rattling the mirrors. <3. That said, all was not to stay blissful - bastian has since figured out something is dreadfully wrong with our closet - the cat in the mirror is now meowing and it has never done this before.

I've got him in my lap, and he seems content as I type this, but it's unclear if I'll be able to sleep tonight, or if I'll spend the evening shuttling between closet and living room keeping the two of them calm. I wouldn't normally go through this, as it's often better to let two cats freak and get over it, but bastian throwing up to be pissed at mommy (it was trivial protest puking, not serious sick) and askavi being stressed by airliner, I figure I can afford to spoil them a bit...After all, sleep is for the weak.

Meanwhile, my bekah is in dallas. I hope her grandmother turns out ok.
