I'm so old, I can remember when the previous movie version of this remake was first released!
Shirley MacLaine and Michael Caine were trying to rip off Herbert Lom in the 1966 version... It was mildly funny.
Alan Rickman is a lot more attractive than Herbert Lom, no disrespect meant to Herbert, who was an accomplished actor and probably a decent, upstanding human being... but he was no Alan Rickman.
Same comparison goes for Colin Firth and Michael Caine. No disrespect meant to Michael Caine, but he was never in Colin Firth's league as an actor, or as a cutey.
But Shirley MacLaine was every bit as beautiful as Cameron Diaz, and she could still blow Cameron right off the screen in the acting department, today.
