Rewatching Stargate Atlantis Episodes

Season 1, Home

Rewatching this episode it occurred to me how much I liked the first season. I love all the third season episodes too, but the first season had something fresh and new. The characters were a little bit goofy. They were alone and stranded in another galaxy, cut off from earth. I liked that.
I remember ‘Home’ was the episode that got me hooked on Atlantis. Before I thought, okay, nice series, entertaining, just like SG-1, relaxing after a long day and with a really, really pretty set. But ‘Home’ strangely set my slash radar off. I think ultimately it was Rodney’s ‘I’m with Genius’-shirt that let me see the light (and his boxers). And he was so flustered when Elizabeth woke him, I totally didn’t buy that he had sex with his neighbour (it was John). It’s probably just my filthy brain, but I saw this whole imaginary world thing as an engraved invitation for slashers. The scenarios, John could have thought up… (with Rodney). So I watched the episode and immediately started to search for slash.
Also John’s bachelor pad looked totally gay to me the first time around. I don’t know why, I was probably flummoxed by the indefinable colour of the walls. The second time it didn’t (I also noticed the pineapple and the telescope - whee!). And, oh yeah, what exactly was Sheppard doing sitting at the console, McKay was crawling around under?
I also loved the conversation between John and Elizabeth in his quarters. It has this powerstruggly feeling to it. They are *almost* fighting about who has to go to Earth and who gets to stay. It’s one of their best scenes.
