Now... here's an email I sent to Alex this morning, one I was going to paraphrase here today, so I thought I would just copy ( Read more... )

I can't imagine doing what Alex is doing. Maybe it's because I love my books, or because I'm not a minimalist, or maybe I'm just too young now... but damn. I've been internet-addicted since sixth grade. I wouldn't be able to just leave all my sites...

Anyway. You seem like a big Dr. Horrible fan: the link you posted earlier today plus the name of your neriresponse. Love it. I absolutely ADORE NPH.

I had super fun in the blogTV room today with John. (: just sayin'. Thanks for the Super Powers.

I think the important word here is balance. Alex is an all or nothing kind of guy, which works in a lot of situations, but not in all. This time I think he might have cut just a little too much, got too close to the bone, and it may hurt a number of people.

As he said in his blog, I just email him when I want him to read or watch something. Because of his lack of public commenting, but me still wanting his thoughts, that's more convenient for both of us. But not everyone has that luxury.

Alan, you make an excellent point. If I didn't look at the influences of other people, I wouldn't be me at all.

I was very surprised that Alex limited himself to 8 subscriptions. That seems very unrealistic, but it is his decision.

Oh Alan, once again you've found the perfect way to communicate what I had been thinking for a day and a half now. Your points are totally valid, I think.

I kinda get why he's doing what he's doing and I've noticed a few others that are limiting themselves and their time on-line so that they have more time to do stuff off-line. I think purges like this from time to time are good. I've made it a point regularly to go through sites and unsub/unfollow/etc. to clear up the clutter.

You make a good point though and I think given some time he'll come back to some of these things and find a better/more manageable balance.
