Car Donation Scam?

You may recall all the ads on tv and radio prior to the new year pushing people to donate their car to charity and get a tax donation. Prior to 2004, if you donated your car to charity, you were allowed to take a tax deduction of the fair market value of the car. We did this to Jeff's 2002 Hyundai that had 180k miles on it and with a broken transmission. It wouldn't reverse. They sent the original receipt for $500 and then told us if it sold for more we'd get a new receipt and a month later we did. How they managed to even get 500 for that POS is beyond me...

Could yours work the same way?

It took a while, but they finally unloaded my car and we got more than the $500. It too needed repairs, but It took a LONG while. They auctioned it off.

That seems to be the case all the time. they unload the cars pretty much wholesale and get whatever they can from them. You're often better off selling your car and donating the money.
