Crunch

Sometime in the early 90s, my best mate John and I used to do experiments with chocolate. I think we were about year four or five. Sometimes what we'd do is buy a whole bunch of chocolate bars and then microwave them to see the results. One time, that included Crunchie bars, which is honeycomb covered in chocolate. I'm not sure if they're available outside Australia.

Our experiments with Crunchies weren't limited to the microwave, however. There was another time we chopped one into pieces and stuck it in a blender, then turned it into a milkshake.

The worst Crunchie prank we pulled involved us melting the chocolate off several bars, then sticking the honeycomb in a plastic bag and hammering it into pieces, and crumbs. We kept the larger pieces and took them to school with us and stuck them in other kids' hair when they weren't noticing, while the crumbs ended up in my sister's bed. Man, John and I were jerks now I think about it.

We did end up in the Vice Principal's office for that prank, though. It set me straight, but John moved on to trying to figure out how to do other jerky things without being caught. When I didn't want to go along with him any more, we stopped being friends. I think that pleased Mum. She was glad when I started focusing more on school.

Now you can get Crunchie ice-creams, which weren't available back then. They probably should've renamed them though because the honeycomb ice cream isn't crunchy like it is in the chocolate bar. I can only imagine the kinds of pranks kids might come up with the Crunchie ice-cream. I bet it'd be an easier way to make a honeycomb milkshake, though.
