I had the good fortune to work with Stacy Whitman back when we were both at a Barnes and Noble in Boston. We discovered a mutual love of children's and young adult fantasy (she was in the process of getting a graduate degree in children's literature; I, then as now, just love reading from the kids' department). Stacy left Boston for Seattle, where ( Read more... )

I was researching Gullah culture a little, a while back, and came across a site where you could listen to folk stories read in Gullah dialect (does it count as a dialect?) It was really fun. I hadn't know much about the culture, other than that it existed, and the more I found out, the more interesting it became.

Stacy's new press sounds great. Thanks for having the guest blog, Alana!

Did it sound like a dialect? If so, I think it counts. :) That sounds really fun to listen to... if you come across it again, post about it!

It was Aunt Pearlie Sue's page. I listened to the little red hen--I loved it!

Given the awesome work that you did while you were there, I've always taken a little pride in having told you about the opening. ;)

Thanks for the interview! I'm excited to hear of any new imprint opening, but especially one for multi-cultural fantasy. My fantasy incorporates diverse cultures (the novel I recently finished drew on ancient Turkish & Etruscan history and now the Maori culture is pulling on me), so I'll be keeping an eye on Tu. :)

All the Best,
Lena
