Trip to Gothenburg :)

Jul 11, 2011 23:43

So I went back to the hospital today. I felt much better than I had done before. Basically spent the entire weekend sitting with my back propped up on pillows (sleeping like that is a real bitch! Left my lower back so sore, but when you have breathing issues, you cannot lay flat :/). But yeah, we got up bright and early (seriously, I was up at like 5:30am 'cause I couldn't sleep >.<) and got to the hospital for a little after 9. Unfortunately we ended up staying there for just over 3 hours, just for me to get an x-ray >.< Seriously, the worst thing about hsopitals is the endless waiting ¬_¬

But the good news is that the x-ray showed there had been a small improvement over the weekend, and 'cause I was feeling better in myself too, I wasn't gonna have to stay in hospital. Yatta!! :D As soon as the doctor said I could go, I was off, like a shot. It's kind of bad just how much I hate hospitals ^^;

Anyways, yeah, I'm feeling a lot better. There's still pain and stuff, and I'm still sat propped against my pillows, but I'm much more lively than I was yesterday :) So I thought I'd finally write up about mine and me mum's 3 days in Gothenburg. I took some truly gorgeous photos whilst there, so it'd be a shame not to share some :)

So early last Monday morning we drove down to Stansted and got an ass o'clock flight to Gothenburg. Flight was okay (considering it was Ryanair) apart from when we landed and I got such painful pressure on my ears I thought my head was going to explode >.< We dropped our bags off at our hotel (Scandic Europa - very nice, similar to Travelodge but with complimentry breakfast and wireless internet) and headed out to find some lunch and explore, before coming back a bit later to properly check into our room.

We lost 4 hours of the afternoon cuase mum, bless her, fell asleep and I didn't want to wake her cause she'd hardly had any sleep. But we went out in the evening and found a really nice restaurant (called 'Sense', I think) and both had lasagne, lol. We retreated to the hotel quite early 'cause we were both absolutely knackered.

Tuesday we got up bright and early and made full use of the breakfast. Swedish scrambled egg is amazing ;) Then we headed out and found the Paddan boats. Was a brilliant way to see the sights of the city. Plus the added excitement of having to practically lie on the floor so as to get under the lowest bridge (the cheese grator), lol. Took a few shots from the boat.

Nordstan - the big shopping mall that was right next to our hotel, lol.

The Lipstick Tower (which caused me to have Jedward's Lipstick song stuck in my head pretty much everytime I saw it ^^; ).

The Gothenburg City museum, which we actually went to after the boats. Was very interesting, and I got to go in for free by sacrificing a year of my life (under 25s were freebies, lol).

And one of my faves, this awesome ship!! Was absolutely transfixed with it, haha.

Also, just after we got off the boat we went to introduce ourselves to the founder of Gothenburg, Gustav Adolf II (I think >.>). Apparently he's pointing down 'cause he literally said 'I will build the city here', lol.

So yeah, we did the museum and then had a quick pitstop at the hotel before I went to meet up with duskyblueskies. Was so good to meet one of my footie lj/twitter friends, I can't even. And she told me so much stuff about her city that I'd never have known otherwise. We went on the Paddan boat 'cause the tickets my mum and I got were good for the whole day and I enjoyed it so much first time, heh. Unfortunately it started raining half way round, so we hopped off and went seeking shelter and warm drinks. Isabel took me to a coffee house and much hilarity ensured.

Por example, (cannot believe I am sharing this ^^; ) they had these tea strainer things that I'd never seen before and immediately assumed were a Swedish thing. I even took a picture ^^;

Only for my mum to then come meet back up with us and tell me we have them over here and they are definitely not a Swedish thing. Embarassing!! ^^; But there's definitely one thing mothers are good for. Taking photos!! She took a pic of me and Isabel, holding up the LFC mag I bought her, naturally :)

We had to part ways eventually, unfortunately, but it was really really great meeting up :D

Mum and I found a Greek restuarant to go to later on that evening and my god, but the food was gorgeous! Can't remember the name unfortunately but it was so nice. I had this lamb burger with goats cheese on top. Absolutely to die for!!

Wednesday was our last day :/ But we totally made the most of it (and perhaps over did it 'cause harsh words were exchanged along the way - we walked too far basically) But I personally feel it was worth it. We took in two different beautiful gardens, plus some of the huge park that contains the Natural History museum, which we went in and saw the massive whale!!.

The first garden that is literally in the centre of the City - amazing!!

And the second garden, the famous botanical gardens, which was a long ass walk out of the city.

After all that marathon walking, we got back into the centre and went to the Bee restaurant, where we had the most amazing club sandwiches I have ever eaten in my life!! We rounded off with some souvenir shopping, before we headed back to the hotel to collect our bags and then get the bus to the airport to fly home.

All in all a brilliant trip!! :DDD

Wow, that turned into a mammouth entry, but I wanted to say it all, so meh. I'm still just so relieved I'm not stuck in hospital right now. If I had to miss Liverpool's first pre-season game I would have screamed! So looking forward to seeing it. I hope Dagger plays so much. Have missed him :')
