Reply here and I'll confess something to you, about you.

Self-involved enough to involve yourself?

Generally I refrain from a situation like this unless I have a general idea of the outcome. Here, I've got nothin', which is mildly terrifying.

I have rarely been so charmed as I was when you described your affection for Sandburg.

How was your birthday?

Really? He's amazing, and always makes me cry, you should really read him.

My navel was very nice, thank you very much. I went to a spa, lost at cards. Thank you for the gift.

Tears. An excellent selling point.

You're welcome, of course, and "gift" is a gross exaggeration. I'm glad you partook of at least one activity your bellybutton could appreciate.

Better then rabies. I mean lock jaw is serious bidness.

It's the thought that counts! Oh yes it had a nice time. How have you been, Alan? Your client still MIA?

Whose poetry causes that?

Yes, fortunately for him as he's shot to the top of the 10 People I Most Want to Throttle list.

Any poet who's come in recent contact with a rabid dog. I once had a seizure after reading Jim Morrison poetry, does that count?

Well that's good, relatively, it's good for you and him of course. All of life's problems should go away so easily.

Did you really. You ought to've read the jacket copy first; I imagine it's a fairly common side effect.

Indeed. What a stroke of luck.

Did you watch the game?

To be fair they were a pretty regular occurrence back then. Ha, I can see the inside jacket now, it reads like a list of the rock stars of the side effects world.

Some people have it!

Which one? The one where they dominated the Sharks or the first one against the Flyers?

Forgive me. That was thoughtless.

The most recent one. (Does "the one where they dominated the Sharks" really narrow it down?) The victory you owe to your goalie.

What? No it wasn't, forgettaboutit.

It's true! We swept the Sharks, really a hockey team in San Jose? Niemi is kind of a big deal.

A little bit, yes.

Show some respect. They did do you the favor of ousting Detroit.

I don't even remember what I am saying non-sense too but I am saying it again.

Oh please, we're not scared of Detroit! Ooo so they won last year, big deal. Jordan ain't scared!

Ah, the Denny Crane method of argumentation.

Fine, fine. Just the same, imagine having to play there.

I can help it, I'm not very good with conflict. Denny Crane, is he your friend?

Having driven through there, I really wouldn't want to stop to do anything there.

He is.

Is that your playoff beard? It's coming along nicely.
