Since "Father's Day" is around the corner, I wonder what type of father will I be? Will I approach the way Phil Dumphey approaches it? He so called "Peerenting", act like a peer, talk like a parent? Somehow the father in the Sound of Music leaves a lasting impression. Whistling his kids to report at his command, very stern, very military type. There are so many parenting style to choose from really but the main question is this, what is the role of the father in a family, specifically to a child's life?
Mother's give birth to their children, give them life, even to the point of giving them a purpose. I believe Fathers should teach kids how to live their lives. How to live a life filled with virtues and the maturity to make wise decisions. I will not mention providing for the family because in this day of age, both the mother and the father do provide the family. Like I was saying, Fathers should teach their kids how the world works. What to do and what not to do. To process the situation and come out with the best, honest, and fair outcome. Fathers should let their kids stand on their shoulders so that they can see farther and go further on what they have accomplished. A Father should be the guiding star for the child, the one that never waivers in any situation. The one they look up to for answers to life questions. The one they look up to as a hero.
Just like any hero, it takes a lot of sacrifice of accepting hardships and disappointments. There will be bad days that will stick to the memory more than the good days. The is the role of the Father, to keep on pushing the child to never give up, to never back down, to never cheat, to always be fair.
Thanks your fathers for always being there because one day, you might be in that position as well.
