We Jam Econo

For Christmas Moms got me a 100 dollar gift certificate to Dusty Groove records in Chicago. These are always gifts that will be used by me to get more stuff that I don't need.
I got the notification e-mail on 12-24. I went online and spent it in five minutes. The next morning moms had wrapped up the confirmation letter in a CD case with the note "I hope you will enjoy this over the coming months." I thought that was cute. It could've been for a thousand dollars and I bet it wouldn't have lasted more than two days.
One of the things I picked up with the GC was the DVD for We Jam Econo about the Minutemen.
I watched it last week and while I thought it was slow in spots it was fascinating.
For starters it was something actually hearing the members of Black Flag talk. It wasn't all of them but there were still voices to be heard. I'd never heard Dez Cadena talk. Same thing for Chuck Dukowski. To me that was awesomely odd. Raymond Pettibone too.
Also it was shocking to see how fucking OLD everyone looked. I was always used to seeing the Black Flag guys in photos; the pictures from the Rollins book Get In The Van and the other pics by Glen E Friedman. But those pictures are probably 25 years old now.
And when I was done I ended up trying to get my hands on the Mersh collections that compile everthing by them that I don't have.
It made me think of my first days or working at Wherehouse Records in 1994. When it was slow in the store I would sit at the Ticket Counter and read through the one stop CD guide. This wasn't reviews mind you, it was a phone book sized book with every orderable CD in it. Thinking about the Minutemen made me remember looking through that book and learning so much.
