Happy Easter! Gosh the weather's been weird. It's really bright and sunny outside now.
I had a really good time in London at the end of this week. I got to catch up with Jen, mooch about the National Gallery, spend lots of money in Camden (oops), rant about TV with Meg over a coffee, eat copious amounts of Chinese food with both Meg and Ni, see Jonathan Coulton in his first ever European gig (eeh!) and have a cheap and cheerful pub lunch with Charles.
I have to say I felt a bit of pleb in the National Gallery. My reaction to art seems to have a rather limited range: (1) ooh that's nice (2) that's...interesting or (3) hmm. I was much more engrossed in my book to be honest, mostly because I feel I can have a more meaningful response/engagement with written things. Am I alone here? Still, it was a fairly pleasant way to spend my morning.
Jonathan Coulton was, quite simply, ace. We were sat right at the front to the side of the stage, and he had to walk straight past us to get there. The geek quotient in Dingwalls was off the scale, but that just added to the general merriment. I especially loved the little dude who was drafted in to be the robot voice in Chiron Beta Prime; he had a homemade Skullcrusher Mountain lab coat on, complete with mad scientist hair.
One of my favourite parts of the night went something like this:
JoCo: So, this next song is about...Maths. [kudos to him for adding on the 's']
Crowd: *screams and rapturous applause*
JoCo: Wow. You geeks.
Shani: You wrote it!
Haha. We got to meet him after the show and I asked him to sign my diary on the 1st of May. So now, next to 10am a.m. it says: "outdoor fucking starts, JoCo :)" Giggle. I also got a signed photo! Yay!
Ahh, I'm such a fangirl. Nice to see some things never change.
