On my travels through town this evening I happened upon the new Santa being erected (hur) - anyone else seen it? When I walked through Albert Square on Sunday night it was like some grotesque anti-Christmas; Santa lay dismembered on the concrete, his massive peach head with its wide staring eyes several feet away from his rotund red body. Now, he sits rather a-magnificently (if that can be a word) atop a scaff tower outside the entrance to the Town Hall.
Well, at least it's not as horrifying as previous incarnations... I don't think I'll ever be able to erase the memory of a huge, plastic, blow-up Santa 'climbing' (*cough* humping *cough*) the clock tower. Shudder. Why Manchester City Council insists, year upon year, on defiling their most prestigious and generally awesome-looking building I have no idea. Which reminds me, I also spotted what I'm assuming is a poppy adorning one of the windows, but it kind of put me in mind instead of a very bum-shined red toilet seat. :P
I'm knackered. And a bit of out of sorts. The whole Japan plan (Ja-plan!) falling through has confuddled me completely, cos I quite liked having a plan and now I don't have one. And it looks like my cunning alternative career path (Civil Service Graduate Fast Stream) is also a bit buggered because I took their self-assessed reasoning tests last night (a taster of what to expect from the initial application stages) and did abominably. It's never pleasant being told that you just scored below the top 45% of graduates taking the same test (so go away and rethink your chances, missy, perhaps this isn't for you). It was as if my Oxford degree suddenly disintegrated into the ether, meaning nothing. Instead, I just felt stupid. Damn you English, now I can no longer assess any statement purely logically. Damn you and your blurring all distinctions between truth and falsity to hell! :P
So yeah that was a bit disheartening. I almost conned myself into believing that, at this stage, I could just go off, do anything and be anything I wanted. World, oyster, you know, that type of thing. But I don't think it really works like that.
Now if only I could at least decide on something. Bah. *flails*
[edit - oh, and I forgot to mention, but is it just me who thinks that the Town Hall Santa looks remarkably like Zippy from Rainbow??]
