in which ashley shares her misadventures in knitting: part 1

it'll be fun, i promise. learn with me!

what you'll need:
- a pattern
- circular knitting needles, us size 10
- three skeins of thick-ish yarn in three colors
- ring markers (eight or so)
- patience
- cunning music

what i'm using, specifically (might not be the best, don't necessarily follow my lead):
- abovementioned pattern
- clover bamboo knitting needles, 29"
- lion's brand yarn gauge 4, in mustard, rust, and brick
- clover split ring markers
- lots of calming tea in lieu of patience
- bsg3 soundtrack in substitute for serenity

i'm also using general knitting instructions.

i picked the yarn mostly by color, because i couldn't find anything thicker than gauge 4. hopefully it will still work out.

so, going by the dryope pattern, i started casting on. at first i was confused as hell, because the online general knitting instructions weren't very clear to me. then, i had an epiphany, and totally understood it. not enough to put it into words, you understand, but enough to not get lost. in my zeal, i knitted a few too many. so i remedied that.

now, i have a lovely 56 stitches on my circular needles.

and now i'm staring at the instructions on how to join on. my needles... kinda don't look like that. either 1) my yarn is too thin, or 2), my needles are too big. i spaced out my stitches as far as i could, but i'm still not certain if i'm doing it right.

so on step two i'm already lost. this doesn't necessarily bode well.

suggestions or better online/downloadable circular knitting guides would be greatly appreciated..
