Anatomy of a Funeral [poem]

ANATOMY OF A FUNERAL

Flick
Of morphine
Just enough to watch the world flush itself down the drain
Twirl my hair one last time
You can say
It was the
COLD
DEAD
IRONY
That finished me off
Resurrect your lost emotions
As you examine what’s left under fluorescent light
It wasn’t the patent leather that stung as it whipped your back
And the taste of disgust never left your mouth
Just an innocent child
Pull out your sundried heart and forget that some things don’t mend
Deny unhappiness
Enamel smiles are perfect denials
Of the bitter
But what a pity
To forget the sweet
The oak sheds its tears
So lay your bouquet for the living
