The usual pattern of my "cycling season" is that I get started too late in the year (as well as in the day, often as not), but persist beyond weather and light conditions I'd have turned my nose up at -- or perhaps more accurately, not bothered m'arse with -- earlier.
Somewhat taking it to extremes this year, but that's because the summer/autumn inversion is, too. Lured out the Lee Valley Road by some evening sunshine, and though it was "extra layer" temperatures, quite pleasant. Only as far as the Regional Park, quick swig of juice (didn't remember to bring the usual ritual apple or banana with), and back via Woods Road (which it has to be said was seriously dark by this point), then back via the N25, and the Bishopstown Court Dunne's. Which reminds me, nice big mince and onion pie for dinner...
Earlier I'd managed to defrost the fridge; this evening I set about two lino floors with a mop. Both tasks distinctly overdue: in the case of the fridge, the drip tray was frozen solidly in place, so accordingly, I'd use the low-tech defrosting method (do triage on contents, leave switched off overnight, clean up the next day).
Listened to a whole Biffy album (Infinity Land) for the first time in months -- albeit in the wrong order, and latterly sandwiched around bits of Later with Jools Holland. Other than that, I haven't heard anything for a few months, other than what's been on MTV2: mainly their last three singles, which at this point I have somewhat mixed feelings about. It's not on my MP3 player, but I had a notion to "test" the sound card on my hand-me-down laptop, that'd been playing up earlier. Having at last sorted out my November trip back to Scotland, starting to feel a real sense of anticipation. Shame about the Bloc Party/Grammatics tour, though. (Maybe they'll add some last minutes dates in Ireland, you never know.)
