*A small, verging on medium sized, package addressed to one Mr. I. Blackwell has arrived at it's destination in good condition. Upon unwrapping it the recipient will find a small wooden tea chest clearly of homemade construct but well put together and intricately carved and painted. "Blackwell" is carved in elegant script across the top. Within are several types of tea, four bags of each kind and each with it's own label: vanilla-almond, orange-cinnamon, vanilla-lavender, vanilla-hazelnut, lavender-mint & lavender. A longer compartment down the side holds three kinds of cookies: shortbread, lavender shortbread and lemon-white chocolate. A note taped to the inside of the lid reads: "I thought if I'm going to keep sending you tea I should make sure you have somewhere to keep it. I hope this is alright with you!"*
Dear Mr. Blackwell,
Miss Alaia is just fine if it's what you like.
I hope you don't mind that I keep writing.
Is that a strange thing to do? I suppose it might be. I like getting mail... but if you'd rather I not write let me know, I promise I'll understand. But this time I do have tea! There's not a lot but there are a few different kinds and hopefully there will be more to send next time once everything here is straightened out. For now though I am going to request that you be one of my taste testers! If you still don't mind of course.
May I ask... what is "Spooky?"
I think it must be fascinating to be a jewel crafter. I have always found the thought of it interesting though I don't know anyone who does it. I design jewelry sometimes to go with the clothing I make, but I've never made the jewelry. I think it would turn out quite horrific if I tried. But I'm not too bad when it comes to clothing, I think. I must not be or people wouldn't ask me to make them things.
That's what I do. I guess. I've done a lot of things really, too many I suppose. But making and mending clothes has always been there. And painting, but that's not really a job even when you do get paid for it.
Oh! And I wasn't asking so you could make me something. I was just curious. I wish I could see your work but I don't need you to make me anything. You're giving me feedback about my tea and well, it really is nice getting mail. Even if two letters end up being all there is I think that's a pretty nice trade.
And for now I leave you with tea and a little extra surprise!
I hope this letter finds you well and enjoying the holiday.
Sincerely,
Alaia
A small slip of paper tucked into the letter reads:
Suggestion for the Vanilla-almond tea (or any other you might like to try this with!):
While this tea is quite nice fixed the usual way I devised something else on a very cold day not so long ago.
Heat 1 cup of milk (for one bag of tea) just shy of boiling.
Add 1 & 1/2 tbsp. of brown sugar to the milk as it heats.
Remove from heat before it begins to bubble and steep tea for 3 minutes.
I like this best late at night. I hope, if you try it, that you like it!
tea,
letter,
alaia,
