Whispers

((This post is coming about two weeks late due to rl. Things have advanced just a bit beyond this but it's still relevant and thus, posted!))

There was a whisper of her name on the wind that day; it sounded so very much like his voice.

She wasn't certain what she was doing anymore, or where she was going. She'd known where to start and done what she could there, little as that was. She'd known where the ship would be, known it's last three points of harbor. But that meant little.

No one knew who she was. They didn't know her name or anything about her. Why would they talk to a stranger, let alone accept her help? It wasn't an unexpected reaction really. It was never wise to talk to strangers and they had more reason than most to be distrusting. But that didn't make it a less crushing blow; and once again she had to remind herself just what she was.

She was secret for a reason, right? And in their eyes even less important than all of the random women who voiced their concern and offered their help in that silly, silly book.

She kept herself quiet, she stayed away. She left the crew alone. She left Abbey alone. And she wandered, peeking into the book only on the off chance that he might somehow re emerge there when she wasn't looking. She didn't know what else to do and though she had a few guesses as to what had happened and why there were far too many possibilities and most of her contacts were dead.

She'd never felt quite so useless. She'd never felt quite so helpless. She'd never been this alone or this afraid. But she kept going because he had to be alive. He had to be. She would know if he were dead, she decided. She would feel it somehow. She would have to, she would just have to.

And as she skirted Orgrimmar that day she could have sworn she heard his voice in the wind, whispering her name. And then she went so still, closed her eyes, tilted her face to the breeze and whispered back with such conviction, as if he were only a step away, as if she just knew he would hear: "I love you. And I'm going to find you."
