so we went on a weekend trip this weekend..actually sunday to monday. another incredible experience, but again too much to take in too little time. these trips are incredible, but we spend more time travelling on the bus then we do in the actual city. it can be very tiring. but it was also really wicked. we left lanciano at 6am and we went to pompei first, arriving at about 11:30, when we had a 2 hour tour. it was unbelievable. seriously. in 79 a.d. the entire city of pompei was destroyed by a volcanic explosion of many layers. very intersting story, but i'm not really keen on explaining it all right now. anyways now 3/4 of the city has been excavated and it feels like you have gone back in time. it's really amazing and beautiful. anyways after our tour we piled back onto the bus and drove about an hour to sorrento, where we checked into our hotel and had free time until dinner. i think i had the longest bath of my life. it was amazing. then we went shopping, where we experienced our first taste of limoncello...a liquor made in this part of italy...very strong. most of my friends didn't like it, but i loved it..so i drank all of theirs too. try it sometime if you get the chance. then we went out to a nightclub. it was intense. anyways, the next morning we left at 8:30 and drove along the almalfi coast. holy.oh. my. the SCARIEST ride i have EVER been on. it was about 4 hours of driving alongside a cliff high, high above the ocean, and these roads were INCREDIBLY narrow...and we were in a monsterous bus. there were a few occassions when we had to back up, and inch forward tediously in order to avoid a collission. it was nerve racking. but we stopped for 20 minutes at one point and got some amazing pictures. we also stopped for 2 hours in analfi and just walked around, ate lunch. shopped etc. then we drove back to lanciano and arrived at 7. so we basically drove all day. here are a few of my many pictures
