Cowboy GTA post 2

Last night, metame and I managed to play a couple of hours of cowboy GTA multiplayer.
Aside from some initial teething problems (mic probs on my end, us ending up duelling each other by accident and so on) we finally got it working, and galloped around as a pair of gunfighters.

I say gunfighters, but I was amused that my randomly spawned avatar is a very fat mexican wearing a huge sombrero and riding a stressed-looking (and sounding) mule. As we level up, we gain points which can be used to change our appearances - by the end of the night we had upgraded from our mules to a thin and scrawny looking horse each.

The gameplay we experienced was quite basic (not that that's a bad thing). The same cover-based shooting mechanic from the singleplayer game, where we were assaulting 'gang hideouts' and slaughtering oodles of AI. When we died we respawned in the scrub outside the hideout, and had to peg it back into the gunfight.

It seemed a bit more lethal than singleplayer, probably cos I wasn't using the slowdown shooting mechanic much, nor gulping health potions like a junkie. Also, there really were a lot of enemies - we think it is geared towards a posse of human players greater than two.

Towards the end of one sequence, we were both badly shot up and rushed to take cover inside a rickety shack. This turned out to be a bad move, as we could only fire out of the windows and doors, and couldn't see the enemies amongst the masses of cover outside. The enemies could see us though, every time we showed our sombreros. The predicament ended dramatically, with us making a concerted rush out of the door while shooting everywhere like maniacs. We were quite surprised to be the last ones standing when the dust cleared.

Highly recommended!
