Distressing news, friends...

A fellow fanfic writer copied, word for word, and entire chapter of my story "Uncertainty on the Wings of Hope," and inserted it into their own story. They even added an author's note, shouting out to me "Thanks for the unintentional help" or some such rubbish, like they talked to me about it or something ( Read more... )

Was this on lj? If not, where? btw, when I first started reading lj about 3-4 years ago, I read someone (I think amber, but it honestly don't remember for sure) say that one of their stories was taken word for word and posted by a European or Russian fanfic writer as their own. I remember because it totally shocked me that someone would do that. Gawd, are we naive, eh?

It was at ff.net. One of my favorite fiction archives, and this happens the one time after forever that I try to post something.

I have been disillusioned. My bubble has been popped. Dreams up in smoke.... Ah.... I can't think of anymore, but you get the drift.

I don't know how ff.net works. Is there a friends' listing? Can we send notes to the person's "friends" the way we do on lj? if there is, I'll get a fanfic account and help send letter to everyone who has been friended by this person. I'm sure others of your lj friends will as well.

Did you contact mods? I know there are some sort mods involved, because they have been purging stories they think are inappropriate. I think if I were you I'd contact the mods at the other sites (AO3, Tsp) and inform them what this person has done, in case they use or try to use those archives.

Internet. Freedom of speech. Intellectual honesty. Ya. Hoo.

Thanks so much! I'll definitely take a look into it and post about it.

I did contact them, but maybe I should do so again.

I should have realized when some of my fav authors started to leave, that maybe I shouldn't hang around, but I didn't listen. :/

And yes:

Internet. Freedom of Speech. Intellectual honesty. Whee...

Whatever came of this? I'm feeling deja vu about my question but can't remember what/if you said.

The accused and I traded words, and resolved the issue.

I thought I mentioned it before in a post or something, but if not, there ya go! :3

I'm also hoping to start working on the story again now that I'm jobless and still continuing to look.
