Harry Potter Tangent

Nanashi

It's been a while since I've been able to dedicate myself to reading a book that wasn't school related. Seeing as Boss and I are seeing Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows II I decided to read the book, officially having the free time I need.

I have already seen the movie, but there was a lot I didn't remember from the book so I decided I needed to refresh.

Now don't get me wrong, the series is pretty damn awesome but I disagree with the general masses who praise it as the "greatest children's literary work of all time" I'm sorry, but no. It's a well-thought out work but I would not classify it as great. Her writing style catered to entertaining a variety of masses but it isn't incredible. She did make reading for children accessible and cool again, which is a feat given the internet boom. As an author, J.K Rowling has flaws, as any author would, but her fame and popularity should not classify her work as the single greatest work ever. I personally have read better works but I have still managed to find the Harry Potter series fascinating, and throughout the years, I have wanted to find out how the story ends and have found that Harry Potter pulled my emotional strings quite often.

That being said, after all these years of not having read it, and re-reading it, I can say that the final chapter STILL irks me. I still found it badly written and disjointed. Overall however, the story managed to answer all questions.

Little notes on the final book/chapter

- Snape is awesome. I've always expressed pathos to villainous characters and his was one of the better ones, personally.
- I really enjoyed how Dumbledore had both a good and an "evil" side making him seem more human, rather than god-like.
- The final battle was really anticlimactic
- I didn't like Hermione as much throughout the series (Book 3 was the only exception because she kicked ass) this book made me dislike her more.
- Harry Potter is a jerkface. He named all his children what he wanted. It seemed that Ginny had no input. This leads me to assume that he is a little crazy. Borderline abusive.
- I never really liked the Harry/Ginny pairing, it just seemed so forced to me. I kind of pictured Harry not definitively pairing up with anyone from Hogwarts but meeting someone outside the Dumbledore's Army circle. That's the realist Lala speaking though.
- Neville Longbottom = Kick Ass. The End. The book did him more justice than the movies
- Deep down, I kind of wanted Harry to actually die. I knew he wouldn't, but it would've been badass if he did.
- Harry CLEARLY has a favourite, and it's his last son. I think his children have grown up with disproportionate amounts of love from him
- I wish that Harry and Draco had more of a rapport in the end rather than just a curt nod of acknowledgment. That final chapter just left so much more to be desired.
- I loved the side stories with Dumbledore, Ariana, The Three Brothers, etc.
- Ron is secretly power hungry. His longing for the Elder Wand could not be more apparent. :P

I have many, many more comments but it is 5:43 am and they're better to converse with someone anyway. Man, it's times like these that I miss A-chan.

Random: Adele is a fantastic singer. Her lyrics and voice are incredible. I admire her greatly.

Peace, love and chocolate chip cookie dough!
