...Rachel Maddow is getting her own show on MSNBC (replacing Jon Stewart's straight news cipher Dan Abrams)!
Aside from the fact that RM is 100 kinds of freaking awesome, she is the person who made me realise how important it is to have people who could be you as role models in a job you could see yourself doing in the future.
Because although I know more about politics and world relations than my friends, and can make them laugh when I clue them in, the people who do those things on television are a bunch of shriveled east coast white men. (Or, you know, the women on Faux News, who are bed-tanned, non-biodegradable suicide blondes with no native intelligence or informed opinions.) But, BWZOMG, Rachel Maddow! An intelligent, informed, un-plasticized woman is finally getting her own show during primetime! (S, I hope you are reading this...)
Full exposure: I really liked the political segments of Verdict--even more than Countdown (because Olbermann's ghei obsession with O'RLY? got a bit tiresome, oh, several years ago)--but if they're gonna replace him with RM, then I have to get behind it.
That will be all.
