BSG racism?

So I'm a fan of Battle Star Galactica... don't get me wrong it's a good show with solid plot line, beautiful music, and a general feel of "yeah this could happen" plastered all over it.

A couple nights ago Flaim came over and we were chatting before I crawled into bed to continue my pathetic attempts at sleep when we came to a relization about our beloved BSG...

The hope of humanity is a bunch of white people in boats.

There's almost no real racial demographic in the series at ALL.

All the main people in power are white, the majority of the people shown are white. The cylons have better racial diversity, an asian woman and a black man are featured quite often.

Of course this led to the usual round of racial bashing that I love taking part in when something so glaringly obvious pops onto my screen. The part that I found almost unbearably hilarious is during one of the episodes they showed a prison ship... and after replaying the series I realized where all the black humans were... in jail. I shit you not, watch the episodes and you'll see what I'm talking about. To put a capper on it the prisoner who gets all the other inmates to rise against the law is a white man, so quite literally black people aren't even portrayed in any positions of power at all.

The asian chick Sharon is frankly a token nod that asians exist. She spins between tortured agonizing debilitating mental anguish to "oh look, I CAN have babies!" WTF?!?!? Why is it asians are only really portrayed as evil or mass bookworms that find such pleasure in gaining knowledge it's surreal?

Even Torchwood manages this feat. Although the music is lovely, the plot is amusingly out there, however in the first episode they definitely portrayed the ONE asian as... a bookworm.

White guy takes home the uber phermone perfume that let's him shag whoever he wants.
White girl gets obsessed with some death glove that leads her to killing innocent people so she can practice with it more.
Asian chick takes home the quick-read alien device. Other then that no interaction with people at all, just a gadget and a book.

I watch the shows, I gain enjoyment from them, but seriously come on people.

BSG's rampant lack of diversity makes my head spin, to be brutally honest if a mass group of homicidal robots that want to take over the universe WERE to exist and attack I highly doubt the last ships of humanity would be mainly manned by white people. To be frank, asians and blacks and pretty much ANY other ethnicity run a hell of a lot faster then the average american white individual. We'd be on those ships in a heartbeat, nevermind slamming the door tight and fleeing to some refuge without twisting in overt agony over how many others died.

Granted I won't stop watching the shows, but yeesh people... is it that hard to get a cast that doesn't reflect blindingly in the sun?!
