Five Things #4: Transformers

Sep 29, 2007 01:16

It's been months since I last updated my Five Things series. I think the last one was in April (which means 5 months multiplied by 4 weeks/month multiplied by 5 things/week) -- a total of 100 things to say. Hmmm, sounds like a hard task but we'll see. Let me number all the things I will say in this entry. Five things per entry.

I'm actually thinking of what item to start with. There are a lot of big items on the news today. Starting from the NBN Deal up to the almost passe issue of Hello Garci.

Let me start first with very trivial things. Since I have a lot of bookmarked sites and kept pictures, I would share (empty the list) first before I go to serious stuff.Let us start with Transformers. I know this sounds really so June-ish but I have a lot of quick facts - trivial or amusing for some -- to share. After watching the Transformers movie, I immersed myself one night to all the Transformers facts that I can find and I know these 5 things that I will list down is still not tantamount to what I found out.

1. Ever wondered where the idea of Transformers really come from? We know that the Japs really had this Sentai shows where the usually-five-member-teams form robots whenever the villain kingdom unleashes the big monster. But before that, some time in the early 80's, there was this toy collection from Hasbro called Diaclone. These is a series of toy trucks and cars that are suited for "battle". A truck can house some cars inside it (which makes me think they should have been called Transporters and not Transformers in the future). Optimus Prime and Ultra Magnus have been created based on these trucks. Optimus Prime was called (or was originally) "Battle Convoy" as he leads the pack and transports small cars with him. I wonder if the Galaxy Robot of MaskMan was patterned after a Transformer. See the clip below:

3. As you've watched from the Optimus Prime vs. Megatron video in item #2, the Autobot Leader is also wounded - special thanks to HotRod. Here Optimus Prime passes the Matrix  of Leadership (what they called Cube in the 2007 movie) to his close buddy and lieutenant Ultra Magnus.
