Free fertilizer!

Mar 29, 2009 00:24

Mt. Redoubt just endowed Anchorage with a dusting of free fertilizer.  Upon inspection (after gathering the volcanic ash off of my car with a post-it note and spice jar), Mt. Redoubt's 3/28/09 3:29 PM ash, ala Anchorgae, is much finer and much lighter in coloration that Mt. Spurr's 9/17/92 ash ala Anchorage.

The difference in grain size is to be expected, as Spurr is 80 mi from Anchorage vs. Redoubt at about 120 mi distant.  I got nothing on the color, though.

It is supposed to get windy tonight.  I hope the wind doesn't blow the ash around too much.  Yucko.  Hopefully it gets bound into the snow/ice and doesn't come back to haunt us until breakup... next week.
