You know things are bad when, the day after your birthday, a close friend calls and starts gibbering away about something unrelated, and when you interrupt to ask "Aren't you forgetting something?" they answer "What?" So you answer, "A certain someone's birthday?" and they answer, "Oh, right, I was going to text you about Voldemort but I forgot..."
