The Trailer.
GOOD:
- The Thestrals are a bit funky. But I can't shake the feeling that with both this and the broom chase at the beginning we're going to end up with TWO extended Horntail chases.
- Fred and George + mayhem.
BAD:
- Dementors = much scarier when confined to the ground.
- Harry better get slightly more annoyed than that ‘It's not a lie!’
- Elderly!Grandfather!Sirius
- EXPLOSIONS!!1 that just fill time.
- Recycled GoF clips. WE NOTICE.
RANDOM ADDITIONS THAT ARE COOL:
- Umbridge and the kissing and the ties. ♥
- Snape is still under the impression that it is okay to beat his students.
- VOLDEMORT IN A SUIT HOW AWESOME IS THAT? (And also funny that people made H/G icons out of that shot of Harry. HAR HAR.)
- LET’S BREAK OUT OF AZKABAN WOO YEAH
- ‘LOOK AT ME!’
- Hermione ‘It’s rather exciting, isn’t it? Breaking the rules!’ On the one hand, it makes me twitch because it’s so out of character.
On the other hand, I LOL’d.
Sigh. Such is the way of the films.
RANDOM ADDITIONS THAT ARE NOT COOL:
- Dumbledore ‘Don’t fight him Harry. You can’t win.’ - encouraging as ever, then.
- Grauitous!Hermionehug. It gets boring. Fast. [see below]
RANDOM:
- Is that Dudley at the beginning with Harry?
- I am not yet sold on Umbridge. Maybe it's the amount of time given over to the rebellion, rather than her evilness, but she doesn't come across as scary.
- If that is Luna’s Patronus, it does not look like a rabbit.
- Is Fudge being projected onto a screen? Ooohhh it's a poster. That makes more sense.
- Dumbledore claps and a phoenix appears what? Patronuses are not orange. OH YEAH it's when he grabs Fawkes and vanishes. Well FINE THEN but I didn't realise that he kept Fawkes in his HAND. Gosh. PHOENIXES HAVE RIGHTS TOO!
OVERALL:
Is it just me, or did nothing actually happen in that trailer?
I guess it’s because we were shown very little of any of the pivotal scenes. There was very little of the Dementor attack, no Grimmauld Place, no hand-cutting, very little DA, surprisingly little Harry/Cho omgromance! and Luna the new starlet, no Arthur attack, no Occlumency, only one shot of Snape, practically no Sirius, no young!Maurauders, and practically nothing of the battle sequence and the Veil of Death.
What we got instead:
Rebellion! Weasley twins! *BOMBS EXPLODE BOMBS EXPLODE* Rebellion! VOLDEMORTVOLDEMORTVOLDEMORT HE WILL EAT YOUR SOUL AND HE HAS A PALE FACE WHICH HE LIKES TO ROLL AROUD ON HIS NECK
He’s only in the book for about a page.
This trailer is particularly grown-up orientated, with very little left to the kids. It definitely gives a very different impression to the IMAX poster.
So, in conclusion: good fun. But I could have done it better.

H'OAKY:
Due to the joy that is YouTube, I have further observations:
- 'LOOK AT ME!' is in Snape's room, thus it is during Occlumency, which makes a lot more sense than my original assumption, which was that he was yelling at Voldemort.
- The Hermionehug is indeed the CANON one at Grimmauld Place before he yells at everyone (you can see some nice mouldy wallpaper), thus it is acceptable.
- Towards the end, there are some shots of the Department of Mysteries (pause it at 1:58 and you have yourself a Lupin holding back a screaming Harry.)
I am slightly more impressed.
