So, if you're not familiar with World of Warcraft and armor sets... basically there are several "tiers" of gear you can collect when you get to the higher levels. The tier 1 set drops entirely in Molten Core, the first and easiest 40-man raid instance. Tier 2 armor drops in a variety of places: pants drop from the last boss in Molten Core; hat drops from Onyxia, a boss in her own dungeon; and the rest drops in Blackwing Lair, the dungeon which is next highest in difficulty after Molten Core. Tier 2, naturally, is quite a bit better than tier 1.
I took my main character, Kusuri, on many many Molten Core runs and never got lucky on a piece of her tier 1 set. Then, after I joined my current guild, we did an Onyxia run and I won my tier 2 hat. So I managed to get my first piece of tier 2 without having a single piece of tier 1 beforehand.
Tonight I managed something nearly as bad with my mage, Tearless. I've taken her on a few MC runs, and we've gotten pretty unlucky on mage loot, so I've only managed to get one piece of tier 1, the Arcanist Gloves. Tonight we had a ton of priests online for our BWL run, so I asked if I could bring my mage for a few fights. The first boss dropped the Netherwind Bindings, part of the tier 2 mage set... and all of the other mages had it. So now Tearless has a piece of tier 2, and she only had one piece of tier 1.
This isn't to say that tier 1 is a requirement for tier 2 or anything, it just amuses me since most people used to collect almost all, if not all, of their tier 1 set before they'd get even one piece of their tier 2. So I guess my characters are just uber leet.
Here's a link to the Netherwind Bindings, btw. (: I'm pretty amused, really.
