Prologue Chapter 1 Chapter 2 Chapter 3
Chapter 4 Chapter 5 Chapter 6 Chapter 7 Chapter 8 Tatsurou stayed relatively quiet the rest of the evening, as did Aki. The bassist paid attention to the other side’s conversations at times but his thoughts were more preoccupied with how the vocalist was acting, even though he knew him the least. It always seemed odd whenever the other went quiet, and a part of him was worried.
They all left the bar late; Aki and Hiroto helped Kei and Mizuki get into a taxi and Tatsurou stayed close by. “T-thanks, Aki-san.” The alice nine guitarist said shyly.
“Those two are drunk and you wouldn’t be able to help them out on your own. It was nothing.” The bassist shrugged.
Tatsurou loomed near him, and it was obvious that he would stay after the others left, despite what had happened earlier. “Thanks anyway.” Hiroto’s lips turned into a small smile as he got into the cab with Kei and Mizuki.
Aki stood and watched as the taxi drove off, the shadow of the taller man nearby.
Looking up at him, he stared right into his eyes. “Let’s go somewhere.” He didn’t know exactly where, he just knew he wanted to get away.
Nodding, the other stared at him hollowly. “Sure.”
The bassist hailed a cab and gave him directions to a place that he knew would be open and not busy. Tatsurou sat slightly away from him and looked out the window. Playing with his lip chain; Aki felt the need to say something but knew that now wasn’t the time to, for he wanted to talk to the taller man somewhere where he knew they wouldn’t be overheard.
They stopped and Aki headed inside, knowing that Tatsurou’d follow him. It made him feel sort of like he was his owner, taking him places and knowing for sure he’d follow. Shrugging these thoughts away the bassist grabbed a table towards the back.
The place had dim lighting; as if used for secret conversations, hidden love affairs. It felt cozy instead of cold, candles lit in a few places illuminating through the dark.
“What is this place, your secret hideaway?” The other looked around curiously.
“It’s just…nice, big, quiet and comfortable.” Aki mumbled.
The vocalist sat across from him, clearly showing how he was unsure of whether or not being close was okay. Aki wanted to be able to stare and read the taller man’s face so he was content with that.
“Sorry about kissing you. I do really enjoy alcohol..but I also hate to lose.”
The other bit his own lip, looking at Aki. “It’s alright. Just took me by surprise, is all.”
The bassist could tell that there was something more to it than that and sighed. “Don’t lie.”
Grinning a little to throw Aki off, Tatsurou winked at him. “Perceptive as always.”
“Be serious.” He narrowed his eyes.
The grin faded and the vocalist stared back at him. “Mizuki-san always spoke highly of his bandmates. Especially when it came to you. I could tell that he cared about you. The more he talked about you, the more I got curious. I wanted to meet you; so I asked him to arrange it. I didn’t know he was going to get drunk and you guys’d sleep together. And then I met you when it was obvious you were stressed. I wanted to help you out…not just for Mizuki. And then things sorta got straightened out; and now we’re here. Ki-kun, I like you.”
The last bit jolted him and Aki hid behind his bangs, murmuring. “Don’t even joke about that shit.”
“I’m being serious, like you told me to.”
“Tatsu-kun, I’m a guy. And I’m co-leader of another band. I don’t have the luxury of someone fucking with me.”
“Aki…” The vocalist gave him a pleading look.
The bassist got up, running a hand through his own hair. “I don’t date. It’s just useless since because we’re usually busy.”
“I know that. So am I , remember?”
“What do you want me to say? I’m not good at dealing with how other people feel.”
“Just don’t leave me.” Tatsurou whispered quietly, grabbing onto one of the other‘s arms.
Blinking, Aki tilted his head slightly. “Only that?”
He was used to hearing other requests during confessions, so the taller man threw him a little off-guard. Usually people said ‘Please go out with me..’ and would be crushed by rejection. By saying ‘don’t leave’ it showed that Tatsurou was simply content by being around him, even if they would only be friends. It was something Aki couldn’t say ‘no’ to; it wasn’t as if Tatsurou had tried to hurt him or he hated being friends with him.
Nodding, the vocalist sighed in relief. “As long as we can still be friends..”
The bassist stared at the other quietly for a few moments. He was searching to see if he could find any cracks, any way of discovering whether or not Tatsurou’s words were lies. Instead, all he could see was that the taller man was being unusually serious. The vocalist’s eyes kept staring back into his and for a while Aki stood, a bit mesmerized.
Quickly, he felt lips on his forehead before watching Tatsurou pull away; hiding behind his long hair.
Rolling his eyes, Aki swatted the other’s head lightly. “Fine. Friends..”
He felt a twinge of regret surprisingly when he said those words. Something about them seemed wrong. Te vocalist started heading away from him and outside the place after nodding at Aki’s words; but the bassist stood still as though for once he was lost. He wanted to move but both his legs and arms felt like jelly; words wanted to come out but he had no voice. He pulled through it and was able to reach out with an arm but Tatsurou had already gone outside. A wave of anger at himself rang through his mind, pressing him to do something more and he ran outside, standing by the doors.
“Tatsurou!” His words were loud and clear.
Even though the other had almost disappeared out of his sight, the vocalist ran over to him; panting a little once he was standing by him. “Yeah..?”
Grabbing the taller man’s hair carefully, he pulled his face to look towards his and mumbled. “Let’s go.”
“H-huh?” Tatsurou looked at him confused.
“Out…” He sighed.
The taller man stared at him some more, still confused. Aki let his hair go and started walking away as Tatsurou jumped over and followed him.
“Where to…?”
Hiding behind his bangs, Aki shook his head. “You don’t get it..”
“What?!” For a few seconds, the vocalist stood still and watched him walk.
Grumbling under his breath, the bassist played with his lip chain. He could hear Tatsurou’s steps following him again and stopped.
“Look--” He murmured.
The other hugged him from behind, pulling him close. “Really?”
The bassist moved out of the taller man’s grip and glared slightly. “Stupid…”
Pouting a bit, Tatsurou began to grin. “Really…”
“Don’t let it get to your head. I just meant that we should hang more tonight.”
The other’s grin hardly faded. “Buuuut….aren’t we supposed to always be together, Ki-kun?”
“Why would I? I hate you.” He stated in a monotone voice.
“Haha, good one.” Tatsurou pat his head. “Where to?”
“Mmm..my place.”
“Alright, Ki-kun~”
They grabbed a cab figuring it would be more convenient. The vocalist sat close to Aki; resting an arm over his shoulders like normal and kept the bassist close. Aki noticed the driver giving them a look through the mirror but ignored it. He was used to odd stares because of his piercing and he was sure Tatsurou was as well with his height. The other hadn’t noticed the driver’s look at all and simply nuzzled Aki’s cheek a little.
Swatting Tatsurou’s head lightly, he pouted. “Quit it.” He mumbled.
Instead, the taller man ignored him and swatted his head back; grinning and nuzzling his cheek more. Getting slightly annoyed, Aki sat still until they reached their stop. Oddly enough; Tatsurou paid the driver.
“Can’t let my date pay..” The vocalist grinned, winking at the driver before getting out of the cab and bringing Aki along; holding his hand.
Inwardly, the bassist cringed at the statement and started to shoot death glares at the taller man but the other brushed them away as he swung their hands and started leading him to his apartment. Aki started walking ahead of him and suddenly a race started between them as to who would lead. It felt like Tatsurou was getting really into it, but once again Aki knew what exactly would bring him down and instead he ignored their friendly competition and started walking as slowly as possible, hiding behind his bangs and chuckling.
Stomping angrily, Tatsurou pouted at him and started shoving him a bit. The bassist did nothing in return and as they got to his apartment, he unlocked the door and quickly pushed Tatsurou away and closed the door before the other had a chance to react. Locking the door, he heard the taller man growl in playful frustration and Aki laughed a bit, quietly. Beyond the door, Tatsurou grew silent and listened, smiling and waiting for the door to open once more.
