this has been in the works for some time now... though i'm not going to get excited about it until it's available for pre-order at amazon :)

that said, i'd much rather see "i live in fear" and "dersu uzula" be released by criterion first :)

I heard it would be a two-disc set, like Ikiru and Ozu's Tokyo Story. It might have a documentary, like the one on Ikiru and Stray Dog.

This would be the third time I'd buy the thing! I hadn't heard anything about improved video, just bonus features.

Personally, I'd like to see Drunken Angel on Criterion.

It's been announced, but is currently stalled for some reason.

I saw the "non speculative" list, and, on the one hand, it's disheartening to see that production has been stalled; on the other, it indicates it's a "new transfer," so perhaps Criterion has gotten its hands on a better print.

I hope so. It would be nice to have the best edition possible of this classic.

Wasn't it a new print (with new subtitles) that toured when someone did the mini-Kurosawa festival a couple of years ago? I sure got to see several movies I'd never seen before and am now waiting for on DVD..
