nx-02 columbia was named after the space shuttle columbia. the second space shuttle. the first was enterprise.
enterprise was named after the uss enterprise ncc-1701 from star trek fame.
the uss enterprise (ncc-1701) was named after the uss enterprise cv-6 of ww2 fame.

ps it perturbs me that the nx-01 enterprise has a series of drawings of famous enterprises in the ready room.... and the most famous enterprise ever is not among them.
