Day twenty-four... somehow I think I will miss blogging about things that are not especially thrilling. It’s a sort of reflection time - though I’m not sure it’s of any use to anyone else. Hopefully it’s mildly entertaining, and if not then I’m sure I’ve gone on about plenty of interesting things for you to look into. Anyway, let’s do today.
I got up early-ish - that is, about half nine, which in the holidays is tremendously early - because I was off with my mum in a quest to open a student bank account, and our nearest bank branch is not at all near. I’ve been in a bit of a tizzle since my accommodation confirmation came through and demanded £200 in ten days and the information of my (nonexistent) current account to take it from. But all went well, we sorted out an account, went poking around cheapo shops for cheapo uni essentials (and some Toy Story Christmas cards, which are obviously very important), and picked up an abnormally large box of cookies for lunch.
We then raced back home to check mum’s car in for a service, and I... well, don’t know really. I ate a lot of grapes. I attempted to start modifying a t-shirt (nothing fancy, I just wanted to try lowering the neckline) but had to abandon the attempt as there was a charity bag being packed up and I had to go through my wardrobe. I got rid of a couple of things, but really I just spent the time going ‘Oh! I’d forgotten about this!’ and seeing if things still fit me. I’d then run out of time to finish the t-shirt (a task for tomorrow) because my friends were picking me up to go to the cinema.
The cinema was heaving; I don’t know if everyone was clamouring to use their Orange Wednesdays or what, but the queue in there was mad. Luckily the was a pay-by-card machine that nobody was using that I let my friend buy our tickets on (to be paid back later) while I looked on and thought fondly of my current account card, soon to be arriving in my household. We saw ‘One Day’; I’ve been trying to get hold of the book for ages but hadn’t managed it, so it was a bit of a relief to see the film and stop having to avoid spoilers. It was quite a clever way of telling a story, and an interesting timeline to follow, the score was good - and, as I’d heard, there was a very sad bit. Overall I enjoyed it, though I found myself questioning Anne Hathaway’s precarious Yorkshire(?) accent and also her slight ‘misfit’ character who she does seem to present quite often despite her ease with people and general good looking-ness. Those characters never really make sense (though this is not a comment on the book, since I haven’t read it). Then home, and tea, and blogging. Now - sleep.
