Major thanks to Kapaychan for reviewing it first, and thus saving me a rewatch for the order of events. Plus, hers is a lot funnier.

Well, some good points, I disagree that the old Ben 10 villains don't gel with the sequels because the team made changes to them so they worked for there show. I mean Vilgax and Aggergor are both the same archetype. Charmcaster was presented with enough adjustment with each subsequent appearance too be both sympathetic and at times cruel "Hit Em Where They Live" many her weak as a villain, so her subsequent turnover was welcomed and I thought Hex worked, he was as much a in character as he was in the original and Dr. Animo worked out fine as a throwaway villain... that's all he was in the original as well ( ... )

Charmcaster definitely improved, but I think when it came to her and Hex, they really weren't as sure about plots--though that might just come down to being uncomfortable mixing magic with what was originally just sci-fi. Vilgax, for all they made changes, even I have to agree he didn't work and I had a hard time seeing him as a credible threat. Sure, he and Aggregor might be similar archetypes, but archetypes and characters aren't the same thing. What worked in Aggregor's favor was that he was completely guano loco and smart at the same time--always one step ahead of the team. Vilgax would try to get ahead, but often, it felt like he was falling behind--possibly as a side-effect of the meta-knowledge that he's been punked over and over again by a ten-year-old ( ... )

I see your point, Vilgax became more of a running joke character but he was much smarter in the OS and more threatening, his reasons too fight always seemed like the simple take over the galaxy, you know traditional bag guy stuff. As for why Vilgax doesn't work in AF, well in my opinion I feel it's because they tried too make him have some warrior motif which conflicts with his OS counterpart because it always felt like his OS self would do any dirty trick and tool while AF Vilgax would do the same but he had that overconfident evil smirk which OS never had ( ... )

I don't mean to make it sound like the sequel crew can't write the original series villains, but overall, I feel that they're more comfortable at writing the ones they've created, and it shows.

Again, I really haven't seen much of the original. So I'm not sure how well the Forever Knights came off in practice. Though speaking in theory, a group of guys dressed in armor collecting alien technology doesn't really strike me as formidable adversaries against a kid who can transform into a bunch of alien superheroes, his ex-military and ex-space cop grandfather, and his magical girl cousin. Okay, well, actually, I think they would make great enemies for the magical girl cousin. The odds seem way too stacked in Ben's favor, and in the sequels, it really shows.

Sorry for the long, long, long hiatus of me, but I had been very busy with university to keep up with your reviews.

Anyway, I'm not very fond of the Forever Knights, but I agree with you that the new ones under George's command were pretty awesome with their high-tech armors. Yes, they were very bad-ass.

Nice review. I enjoy reading it.
