So, yesterday I took Pestilence back to the vet to see how his bladder infection is doing. The antibiotics should have cleared it up by now, but he’s still peeing everywhere. Sometimes he’ll stop and make a little puddle, then two minutes later stop and make another. He seems to be fine when he’s sitting with me, or sleeping on my bed, but when he’s moving about he has problems.
The bladder infection is likely gone, but they didn’t do any tests, nor did they check his blood sugar. When the vet says “there’s no point anymore”, it’s not a happy time. He’s lost a pound in the past month, and the vet can feel the mass in his bladder area has grown. It’s also not smooth and round, like a stone would be. So, while there’s been no expensive tests or anything, there’s basically no chance that it’s anything but cancer.
Apparently the kind that grows down there is fairly aggressive, too. So, my sweet little kitty doesn’t have much time left. It could be a matter of weeks.
And yet, he doesn’t act like he’s suffering at all. If he did, that’d make things easier; I do not want my cat to suffer, and as painful as it will be, I’d have him put to sleep right away if it would prevent him from suffering.
So, for now at least, he’s still my little pal, following me around and trying to sit on the keyboard and peeping at me if I don’t pay him enough attention.
But, if he stops eating, or if he begins to consistently pee blood, or he stops peeing altogether, it’ll be time to say goodbye.
I’m not looking forward to it. My little Pestikens has been my buddy for nineteen years.
