I leaned back on the part of the trunk that curved upwards, looking up at the darkening sky. Time was passing extremely quickly today, and what was meant to be an early afternoon walk had become a lengthened stroll through a darkened forest. By then, I had grown accustomed to the erratic behavior of time, and I realized that I should have been paying more attention to my surroundings if I wanted to return punctually. Well, I guessed I could slack off occasionally. No one will mind if I return somewhat tardy. Well, hopefully, they wouldn’t mind too much. Hopefully.

Everyone had become much less protective of me in the duration that I had been in the Royal Flush. At first, I almost had a curfew as everyone would call the other Kingdoms to check where I was when the sun set. If she wasn’t in any of the Kingdoms, which occurred once or twice, Calvin or Jiro were usually the ones to seek me out. Eventually, I was able to stay outside and watch the sunset, and no one would be worried until late at night. Now, I could probably stay a whole night in the forest and everyone would assume I had found another Kingdom a favorable place to stay the night.

Not that I would be able to stay the night out in the forest, considering the fact that I was stubbornly ignoring the growls of my hunger and the sleep in my eyes. I wouldn’t mind sleeping on the ground for a night, but I hated being hungry, and that would probably drive me to the nearest Kingdom to grab whatever meal I needed. Now, I was persistently overlooking my hunger to remain on the tree a little longer, trying to figure out a landmark of sorts to find it if I ever needed to in the future.

Of course, in my thoughts, I was completely ignorant to the fact that I wasn’t alone in the forest. I felt a sharp pain in my shoulder, and some sort of liquid sliding down my side. I fell forward, managing to somewhat regain my balance in midair and land on my feet. I saw something sparkle out of the corner of my eyes. The vial. It was falling to the floor about one and a half meters away. I couldn’t let it break. I dived for it, reaching out with my left arm, as my right arm was in serious pain, and I guessed that any large motion would cause the pain to substantially increase.

I was airborne for a second before landing with the vial in my hand. It was a good thing that I had played volleyball, so I had experience in diving. Not that I dove much in volleyball, but it did help with the hand-eye coordination. The vial rolled off my hand, landing on the floor. Suddenly, a wave of nausea hit me, and I looked down to see that the left half of my outfit was covered in blood. Great. That was a beautiful sight. I sat up, resisting the searing pain, and reached for the vial, which had rolled a considerable distance away.

I was surprised when a different hand picked it up before I could obtain it. I looked up to see none other than Arron, with an accomplished expression on his face. What was he doing here? I touched my right shoulder…was it him? Was it even possible that he had the accuracy that was normally attributed to Diamonds? Well, he definitely had something to do with it. “What are you doing here?” I asked.

“My, Ryou, do you really have to ask?” Arron studied the vial in his hands, playing with the cork on the top, “Anyways, do you want to know what happened?”

“…Yes.” There was no hiding my curiosity, and it wasn’t like hiding it would make much of a difference.

“Well, Calvin shot you-“

“WHAT?” I interrupted him, which cause him to chuckle in that condescending way of his before continuing.

“The Diamonds Kingdom was disqualified, so I took advantage of the favor he owed me.” Arron explained, though it still didn’t make any sense to me, “So, I made him shoot you, under the threat that if it were I who was shooting you, I would likely miss and kill you accidentally, and that wouldn’t be good at all.” I must have had a strange look on my face, because he took another look at me and chuckled again.

“Anyways, the shot was just to handicap you temporarily so I could take this.” Arron held out the vial, just out of reach, “You see, Kyuhyun absolutely hates losing, so he decided to place things in his own favor so he could win the game. Now, Ryou-ah, do you know what happens if I drink this?”

“..Do I want to know?”

“It won’t matter in the end, anyways.”

“Fine. Go ahead.”

“If I drink this, I have full access to your memories, and it will allow me to remove and add memories as I wish.” He stated simply, “I have unlimited power to change, substitute, remove, and add memories, thoughts, beliefs, and I could probably change your personality if I wanted, though that would be a task that someone from the Hearts Kingdom could execute more effectively, in respect of their great magical power. I would only be able to change a few minor factors. Also, I can change other’s memories about you and the world’s records of you.”

“You are crazy.”

“Am I?” Arron opened the vial, “Well then, good night! Don’t worry, I’ll be sure to take care of your wounds.”

“You are.” I said, watching Arron drink the liquid in the bottle. A sudden surge of sleepiness overcame me, and I managed to say, before falling asleep, “And that is ever so reassuring.” I gave in to the overwhelming force, drifting into unconsciousness. I was already tired and hungry, so there was little fighting spirit inside of me that would allow myself to be in a state of awareness for any longer.

Arron lifted Ryou off the floor, carrying her back to the Spades Kingdom as he browsed through the memories that suddenly filled his mind, picking out any memories that would cause a negative view on the Spades Kingdom, and inserting a number to make the Spades Kingdom much more appealing, as well as a critical few that Kyuhyun had specifically mentioned. Next, he altered everyone else’s memories of her, and the records, to state that she was originally obligated to the Spades Kingdom upon entering the Kingdom, although she could choose between Knight and Queen as her rank.

Arron’s work was not unrewarded, though, as Ryou had quite a few…interesting memories, “a few” referring to the memories of conditioning, especially those which contained Heechul in it. Heechul, exercising. Arron had to laugh at the thought of that, and luckily, he had access to a visual image of it too. The mind was an interesting thing, being able to play auditory, visual, and textual memories, and even all at the same time. He laughed at Heechul’s constant complaining, and Ryou’s yelling at him to work harder.

Would she make the Spades condition with her too? That would be quite funny. Arron could imagine her making Kyuhyun condition with her, and was looking forward to it already.
