Joker Au Chocolat Chapter Two

I watched the two guys as they started deciding what to tell me, and in what order. At first, I paid attention to what they were listing, trying to make sense of the words they were saying, but I soon lost interest, zoning out as they listed, argued, and organized everything they knew about this place, which was definitely a lot. Finally, they managed to organize their thoughts, and turned back to me. By that time, I had taken a seat on the floor, leaning against the desk, and surveying the room in further detail. I guessed that each half of the room was where one of them kept all of their files and stuff.
“EH? WHERE DID SHE GO?” I could tell that was Yesung, since Ryeowook had a higher voice.
“Right here.” I stood back up again, “so, are you going to explain where I am now?”
“Yeap! Anyways, this land is called Royal Flush, and it consists of five major, civilized areas, the Spades Kingdom, the Hearts Kingdom, the Diamonds Kingdom, the Clubs Kingdom, and the Royal Council. Right now, you are at the Royal Council, which is the center of all the Kingdoms. Now, we’re going to take you up to the roof so you can see everything else!” With that, Ryeowook opened the door for me.
I walked out into an ornate hallway, the walls were white, but there were reddish-brown designs printed on the middle of the walls, and the edges. The roof had a fleur-de-lis on it, repeating down the hallway. Ryeowook and Yesung guided the way to an elevator - I was surprised they had one, since the place seemed so…It wasn’t old, because it wasn’t wearing away at all, but just old-fashioned. The elevator door opened again after a few moments, revealing a large room with windows on every side.
“This is the Spade Kingdom,” Yesung pointed straight forward, and I walked to the window to look outside. We were pretty high up, probably somewhere around fifteen stories up. I gazed out to see a futuristic-looking place, with blue, strangely-shaped buildings and what looked like highways curving around the city.
“That’s Diamonds Kingdom,” We walked to the left to the next wall, where the scenery consisted of a cute, light-hearted looking place, which, from far away, would probably look like a sea of orange and yellow. The kingdom had a roller coaster circling around it - that looked like fun, I made a mental note to myself to ride it - and a few rides scattered about the place.
“This is Hearts Kingdom,” We continued along counterclockwise, and I looked out to see a Kingdom that - this time - actually looked like a Kingdom. It had a castle, castle walls, and a small village outside. As expected, everything was pink, red, and white.
“And, finally, the Clubs Kingdom~” This Kingdom was somewhat like a forest, or some sort of nature-based Kingdom. The colors were mostly green and brown, and there was a large tree near the back of the Kingdom.
“Everyone in the Kingdom follows certain rules, set by the nature of the Kingdom. You can learn about those as you explore. The role you chose was the Joker, meaning that you can travel among all the kingdoms, staying neutral. Do you have the vial from earlier?” Vial? Oh, did he mean that crystal bottle? I looked down to see that I still had it in my hand. It was empty before, but now it was completely full. I brought it up in front of me, it had filled with the same clear liquid as before.
“When you drank from that vial, the game started.” Ryeowook said, his voice somewhat darker now, “If the vial breaks, then the game is over, and you’ll die, so take good care of it. Since you took the role of the Joker, that means you can take any role that’s open, namely, the Queens of Spades, Clubs, and Hearts, a bishop or knight of the Royal Council, or the Knight of any of the suits. The latest one is probably the hardest rank to obtain. To become a Queen, one of the Kings must fall in love with you, so that’s a romance game. To become a bishop or knight of Royal Council, you need to earn the trust of the Supreme King. To become a Knight of any suit, there’s a challenge for each Kingdom you must defeat.”
“Or, you can choose to go back to your world. For any decision, you have to find the vial of liquid for that decision, and drink it. Upon doing that, you’ll officially become a part of this world, and…” He hesitated for a little, “you’ll stop aging. Your heartbeat will stop. Until that time, you won’t be bound by any of the Rules, but when you drink the liquid, you’ll find the Rules will suddenly be intuitive, and you won’t be able to break them. You’ll never be able to make yourself do it. It just won’t happen. No one knows why, but the magic binds everyone to the rules.”
“…Oh.” Of course, there was a dark side to this.
“Anyways, we’ll show you around the Royal Council now!” Ryeowook and Yesung returned to the chipper mood that they were in when we first met, “We can go see Kangin-hyung and Siwon-hyung now!” We walked back into the elevator.
When I came out, I found myself in a hallway fairly similar to the one from before, except the designs in this hallway were printed in dark grey. We walked down the hallway into a large room, with weapons and different armor arranged around the walls. There were so many different shapes and sizes, the majority of which were modern weapons - grenades and guns and whatnot.
“Kangin-ah, are you here?” Yesung yelled, and received an echo in return.
“Yeah, right here.” Two people walked out from a door at the corner of the room.
“This is a newcomer, Ryou!” Ryeowook introduced me, and I bowed my head in greeting.
“I’m Kangin, and this is Siwon!” the shorter guy of the two said, “Welcome to our world! Hey, Ryeowook-ah, what role is she?”
“Joker.”
“Ahhh! That’s a difficult role, isn’t it? Be careful, Ryou-ah!” Kangin smiled.
“We’re going to take her to see Teukie-hyung next, you want to come?”
“Sure!”
Who was this “Teukie-hyung?” Well, I guessed I would find out soon enough. Everyone walked back to the elevator, and we went upwards, past the floor with the windows all around, to the eighteenth floor. The elevator opened to reveal a large office with wood floors, and a nice, homey feeling to it.
“Teukie-hyung, we have a newcomer!”
“I know. I saw your record.” I looked towards where the voice came from to see a young-looking guy sitting at the desk. “Well, Ryou, welcome to my world. I’m the Royal King of the whole place, and most of the actions made by the main roleholders are reviewed by me. Ryeowook and Yesung are bishops who help me manage all of those files, and Kangin and Siwon are knights who help me take care of the world.”
He looked out the window, “It’s getting dark, why don’t you stay the night, and tomorrow, I’ll have Kangin and Siwon escort you to one of the Kingdoms, whichever one you want to go to. Anyways, why don’t you go an prepare a room for her? Let her pick one of the guest rooms.”
“Alright, Teukie-hyung!” They brought me to a room where the color scheme was purple, the walls light lavender, the bed a royal shade of purple, and the furniture white.
“Good night, Ryou!”
“Good night!”
