Seriously?? There's an Edward Cullen Fan Club???? Fangirls of the world scare me....

Alright. I would have updated faithfully yesterday, but I was slightly miffed at a really stupid fight. I didn't feel like doing anything but reading, sulking, and replying, "I'm fine" to every question that anyone asked me.

I finished Atonement a few days ago. It was as wonderful as I'd hoped, even if the ending was a bit melancholy. I just love Ian McEwan's writing style. I might just have to buy a few more of his books in the near future.

In the meantime, I've started a new book. I guess I've got a little bit of time to do absolutely nothing with since I'm in between jobs and my classes don't start until the tenth. This one is a little below my usual reading level. It's probably classified as young adult, but it was shelved in with all the others at the store, so who knows? I'm not terribly sure I care since it's turning out to be such a good read. It's called Twilight and it's by Stephanie Meyer.

One of the things that motivated me to pick up this book is that my writing style was compared to hers. Now, for one, it's not an insult of any kind of proportion to be compared to a writer who's been on the New York Times bestseller list...unless that author is J.K. Rowling. (I hate Harry Potter and I refuse to ever bother to read it. Don't even try to persuade me. My mind is made up.) Out of my own sheer curiosity, I happened to read an excerpt of this book online.

From the time I read the excerpt, I knew I'd have to read the book. It may be a bit strange, but it struck me. So, when I came across it in soft cover for only $9.99, I simply had to buy it. I started to read it yesterday and I'm already almost 200 pages in.

There is, however, one thing that disturbed me about it. You see, on the author's website, she has a listing of actors that she thought would best suit the look she had in her own mind for her characters. I remembered this, so I decided to look again just so I could create for myself a clearer mental image when I decided to read more.

I perused the site for a little bit and happened upon a link to another site. It scares me to realize how hard some people fangirl. There is a fan club for a character in this book. There are actually several fan clubs for several characters. Now, granted, I should not be throwing fangirl stones. I mean, how many times have I gushed over new fanfics from my favorite authors? How many times have I sat here, typing away on some little fanfic dream about Inuyasha and Kagome finally coming together? How often had I done these quirky little things myself?

However, one thing that I pride myself on never having done was join a fan club for a fictional character. Moreover, I have never designed, created, or worn a t-shirt to promote said fan club. They've even created jewelry based on a bracelet described in the book!! How far will this go, I ask you!?

Don't get me wrong. So far, it's a great book. It's entrapping and wonderful. I highly suggest it for any one looking for a quick and decent read. However, I'm not going to get all nutty all of the sudden and abandon my life to the Edward Cullen Fan Club. Fascinating character that he is, he's just not worthy of club. Know why? BECAUSE HE'S NOT REAL!! You'll never be able to touch him!! Create a club for the brilliant author, not one of her characters. Seriously, guys. Seriously.
