"So, are you going to shoot the gun?" Said the tall, shirtless man. Mr. Manville, Josh's father, is way taller than any of us, but he seemed taller this morning, gripping a hand cannon in his right hand.
"No." I said, looking to my feet.
"Why not?" He replied.
"Because.. I don't know..guns scare me."
With that, he approached Hiang with his Magnum. He handed her the gun. He had given us all protective ear muffs. I watched himm instruct her, his words falling upon my deaf ears for I was wearing my ear muffs for some reason.
I was nervous for some reason, the night before was still lingering in my mind.
Beer pong. I remember that.. my bounce shots.. I beat Josh..
Michelle, that's right. I saw her again. She was doing okay. A lot of cute girls, but I was too drunk. Yeah, that's right, then we got stoned.. Played videogames.. and then passed out?
A muffled, but still loud gunshot woke me from my daydream about the night before. Hiang stood there, gunsmoke coming from the barrel of the gun.
She missed the target.
Mr. Manville then motioned the gun at me, apparently completely disregarding our previous conversation. No choice Vic, just grab the gun I thought. I took the gun from him after readjusting my ear muffs. I gripped it with one hand, pulling the hammer back with my thumb, I then held it with both hands.
The target, a jug of water, seemed so far away. The nervousness kicked in. Shaky hands. Fuck, I thought, I can't aim this thing. This is a REAL gun. This kills people. Don't think about it. Just focus on squeezing the trigger. Just..squeeze the trigger..
..squeeze.
I squinted, the anxiety flowing through my body. I grit my teeth, and squeezed the trigger. A loud bang instantaneous with the jerking of the gun followed. I missed the jug, but that wasn't my goal.
I shot the gun.
I got over the fear, the anxiety.
Fuck missing the water jug, I hit my inner self dead on. I saw the hill, clambered up it, and when it was fucking crazy, I stood on top of it.
The cigarette after that, was one of the best I've had.
