Jack, however, was feeling quite bored of the latest writeup that he'd been working on. "See someone you know?" he asked, smirking and raising an eyebrow. "Care to introduce me to them, then?" He turned one of his big matinee idol smiles onto the boy. Why else would Akihiko feel the need to run up to the Plass? It would explain why he had continuously snuck glances at the camera footage of the Plass since they'd returned from lunch a while ago.

"Oh no, it's really nothing," he said, a little too hastily. "I don't know anyone out there - how could I?"
He just didn't want to waste Jack's time and get laughed at when it turned out to be nothing.

Ianto thought it quite hypocritical of Jack to be asking where Akihiko was going and expecting to get a straight answer. Jack had an infuriating way of wanting to keep even the most mundane things to himself now and then.
"Tell you what," Jack said, "I could come with you. I could use a chance to stretch my legs. Or you could take Ianto. If we let him do paperwork without a break for very much longer, he'll go into full on archivist mode, and we'll be lucky if we see him for days."
Jack's curiosity was piqued. He could tell something was bothering Akihiko, however minutely, and right then anything was more interesting than what he was working on. He never had been one for protocol, after all. He just wanted to make sure that Akihiko's supposed nothing was actually nothing, and not, well, something after all.

Though it did occur to him that he was probably bored and trying to get out of work.
Well, given that that was probably the case, it wouldn't be fair to pull Ianto off of what he was doing, simply because Jack had given him the choice.
"Sure," he said, trying to act casual. "If you want to stretch your legs, Captain, I'm not going to stop you. I...I was just going for a walk, anyway."
