Title: Performing Arts Academy Awesome - Part 6
Characters: *deep breath* Spoony, Linkara, Film Brain, Marzgurl, Chick, Critic, Insano, Son of Insano, Ask That Guy, Scarlett, various others mentioned
Summary: It was just a contest.
Rating: R for language, violence, sex, and Ask That Guy's very presence.
A/N: FINISHED. This is the fill for this prompt, and it ate my brain forever. I want to do a DVD-style commentary for this, because I have Things To Say about it. For now, though, know that this is the song I associate with Spoony in this fic. It may be the one he plays, as well, I never really decided.

Marzgurl crawled across the blanket to Linkara, pressing her mouth against his jaw and curving her hand over his thigh. He shifted away.

"What?" she asked, surprised.

"I'm just..." he sighed. "I don't know."

Marzgurl sat back. " We don't get that many of these weekends," she muttered.

"I know. I'm sorry."

"...what's wrong?" A pause, then he just shook his head. "Linkara." He looked over at her, at the concern in her face. "Talk to me."

He let out a single, harsh laugh. "You really don't want that."

"I really do."

He looked sidelong at her, then sighed. "I just can't stop thinking of how little you need me for this."

"...Bob is a good guy, but he's not the sa - "

"I was talking about Film Brain," Linkara bit out. Marzgurl froze, every muscle in her body going tense.

"How did you - " She squeezed her eyes shut. "Footsteps."

"I came to keep you from breaking curfew," he confirmed, voice low." "Seems Film Brain beat me to it."

"It was a mistake," Marzgurl said firmly. "A stressed-out, stupid mistake. It won't happen again."

"Yeah. Well." Linkara dropped his head, staring at his hands. "That doesn't help how I'm feeling right now."

"...you don't believe me." Marzgurl crossed her arms, looking away. Her voice was low and tight. "You think I'm cheating on you, when you spent every waking moment with your tongue down Spoony's throat - "

"We discussed that," Linkara interrupted hotly. "We had an agreement. You never said word one to me about Film Brain."

"Because I wasn't planning on kissing him!" Marzgurl exploded, throwing her arms up and glaring at Linkara. "It just happened, and it won't again. I don't love him," she said bluntly. "I love you."

Linkara was silent.

Marzgurl's face twisted into a frown. "...this is where you say 'I love you, too, Marzgurl'."

Linkara didn't say anything, didn't look at her. She swallowed hard. When she spoke it was quiet, more of a breath than a word.

"Oh."

Without another word, she collected her things and left.

---------------------------------------

Critic stopped in front of his car, keys in hand, and looked carefully back over his shoulder. Ask That Guy was there, leaning against a nearby light pole with his pipe in hand.

"My, you're jumpy these days."

"What can I say, I have a great 'psychotic fuckhead' sense." He turned back to the car door. He was pretty sure he could get in and drive off before Ask That Guy could get to him.

He was wrong.

Ask That Guy shoved him up against the car, whirling him around to glare into his face.

"You've gotten faster," Critic noted dryly.

"What's her name?"

"Your mom."

Ask That Guy's knee came up between Critic's legs. Critic hissed out a swear as he was shoved back up against the car. "What's gotten into you?" Ask That Guy growled. "You were never this loyal. You're all about number one."

"Enemy of my enemy," Critic grunted. Ask That Guy's knee came up again, into his stomach this time.

"I'm being nice, he hissed as Critic coughed roughly. "You know how this works. Give me what I want and I go away."

"Not this time," Critic wheezed. "Not her." Ask That Guy punched him, snarling. "Why are you being nice?" Critic slurred. Another punch, harder this time, wilder. Critic spat blood. "Am I supposed to feel special?!"

The punches grew more brutal, Critic's head cracking against the car with each blow. When he was finally released he collapsed, sliding down the car to rest against the tire with a dazed expression.

"What can I say?" Ask That Guy said darkly. "We've all got our favorites."

And then he was gone.

---------------------------------------

The next meeting was held at the school, on the grounds that Spoony's neighbors were starting to think he was running some kind of cult. While Chick and Y attempted to make sense out of the scribbled-over, re-written, and re-scribbled-over timeline, Linkara offered to make a soda run. With everybody's ones in hand, he singled out Spoony to help him carry them back. Spoony gave him a warning glare, but Linkara just motioned at him to follow as they made their way out the door.

They made it down the hall and around the corner before Linkara had him against the wall, kissing him deeply, shoving the money in his pocket to allow him to run his hands across Spoony's stomach and along his waistband. Spoony only resisted for a moment, melting into the kiss and groaning as Linkara's nails scratched against his sides. He reached around Linkara's back, pulling him in against him, and dragged his lower lip between his teeth. His eyes were dark when he pulled away, and Spoony just pressed their foreheads together as Linkara's breath came hot against his cheek.

"What is wrong with us," he murmured. Linkara kissed him again, a simple press of lips that nonetheless sent a shiver down his spine.

"I wish I knew."

A door slammed and they both jumped, but didn't separate. Linkara pressed his face against Spoony's neck and Spoony just pulled him closer, staring at the ceiling with confusion swirling through his mind.

---------------------------------------

Insano was at the front door when Spoony got home, pacing the hallway with nervous, twitching fingers.

"...you're up late."

"I have to tell you something."

"Can it wait 'till morning? I'm pretty fucked up."

"It's about Marzgurl."

Spoony froze, his eyes narrowed at Insano. "Why do I want to punch you right now?"

"Because I probably deserve it," Insano said bitterly. "Look, Ask That Guy knows about her. I told him not to come here, and she's been sticking with someone when she's outside school, but he's already killing out of boredom. I don't know if he'll wait much longer."

Spoony paused for a moment, then slammed his fist into Insano's jaw. Insano stumbled against the wall, clutching his chin, and grinned darkly. "Yeah, definitely deserved that," he muttered.

"You told him," Spoony accused.

"I didn't have a choice," Insano shot back. "He's holding my son over my head. I'm risking that just by telling you what I am!"

Spoony scowled. Insano had noble intentions. It was making his head spin a little. "Then why are you telling me?"

"I owe you," Insano said flatly. "For taking care of him. I don't like owing people."

"And this makes us even?"

"Not by a long shot," Insano admitted. "But it's a start."

He turned abruptly and headed down the stairs, leaving Spoony to stand with his hands over his face.

"Tonight can be over at any time."

---------------------------------------

Film Brain bowed with a flourish as he and Marzgurl reached her car, and she gave a small giggle as she set her books inside.

"There's a smile," he said fondly. "You've seemed upset all night."

She shook her head, the smile fading. "Just...just tired, I guess."

"Well, keep yourself rested. Dark circles don't suit you." She smiled wanly at him as he turned to walk away.

"Hey," she called suddenly.

He stopped and turned back to her. "What?"

She grabbed him by the arm and pushed him up against the car, her mouth on his and fingers fumbling at the zip of his pants. He broke away, trying to push her hands aside to no avail. "What are you doing?"

"What do you think?" She got the zipper down and he swatted her hands away, trying to turn from her but stopped by her weight against him.

"What about Linkara?"

"What about him?" Her fingers found their way inside and his breath caught as he grabbed her wrist, stifling a swear when her fingers moved against him anyway.

"What's gotten into you?" he whispered harshly. Marzgurl grabbed his other hand and pressed it against her breast.

"He already thinks we're fucking," she hissed against his mouth, squeezing him and watching his head fall back. "I'd hate to make a liar out of him."

He looked at her, at the fierceness in her face, and the way it seemed to mask something else. Something deeper, more raw. Hurt, he realized suddenly.

Slowly, hesitantly, he released her wrist, flattening his palm against her.

"Atta boy."
