Stay with me.
Belong to me.
It would have been the easiest thing, to surrender to this, to surrender to who had given much to her and her people, despite the betrayal, the tensions, the possessive hold.
“I… I…”
But through the haze of her mind slashed the clear path of a bullet fired across a bridge and the resounding roar of the gunshot cleared away any remaining doubts (desires) in her mind -
And for the first time in a long time, she looked at him with clear unclouded eyes.
NO.
Give me liberty or give me death, right, Alfred?
Notes:
Decided to jump on the bandwagon and make my own OC!Philippines. :P
>about the bullet = I remember reading in my grade 5 HeKaSi book about what sparked the Filipino-American War (or as I call it, the Filipino War for Independence from the US): Tensions were already high between Americans and Filipinos, though there was no outright fighting yet. Until one early morning, an American soldier at his post on a bridge opened fire on a Filipino crossing said bridge, who was doing just that -- just crossing a bridge to get to the other side, probably to visit relatives.
And that sparked the war.
(Anyone out there, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. I'd like to know if I remembered right, or if I made a huge mistake. However this is what I based my little drabble on, so I won't be changing anything. XP)
>Also, Maria Clara is a pretty well-known (nationally in the Philippines) character of Jose Rizal's book Noli Me Tangere. (
click for the curious) I haven't read it myself, since I migrated after 1st year of HS. ;_;
>Therefore, Maria Clara is NOT the name of my Philippines OC... She will be properly introduced in my other fanfics. :)
>Give me liberty or give me death - is a (nationally, US of A this time) popular line i stole from Patrick Henry's letter/speech (
for the naturally curious)
