Just finished watching "La Lengua de las Mariposas." I'm glad the movie ended when it did because if it had taken any longer I would have been very very teary - not a good thing in the library.
It's funny because I thought the movie was about the Spanish Civil War but a lot of it wasn't. It was just about a little boy, learning about love and family and nature - basically just growing up. Retrospectively, it was a movie about the time just before the Spanish Civil War, and the very beginnings of the divide. The ending was extremely bittersweet, and proves just how insensitive and hurtful children can be. Nobody ever say that children are pure.
But obviously the best person in this whole movie is Don Gregorio, Moncho's teacher. Man but I wish I had someone like him growing up! He is possibly one of the best teachers I have seen, in movies and real life. Awesome kindly old man, with a lot of knowledge and love for his students. You just don't see people like this anymore...
Edit: Turns out that I couldn't have gotten extra credit for this because that opportunity was over. Damn. If this movie wasn't so good I would have been really mad at wasting two hours of my life (and studying time).
