The difficulties of art

Something that frustrates me sometimes is that I can't ever find a consistent coloring style. I seem to have found a method of coloring skin that I'm sticking to for now anyway, but now I'm messing around with a different hair coloring technique. I suppose part of the reason why my style can change so drastically within the span of a few pictures is because I take forever to finish a single one. I've always been a perfectionist when it comes to drawing and I work hard to put a bit of my heart into everything I make. I just can't submit something until I feel it's perfect, or at least close to that. Sadly, usually shortly after I finish something and submit it, I become dissatisfied with it. It's just not enough.

To be honest, I envy the people who can make so many beautiful artworks in such a short period of time. It's not a hateful envy; it's an envy of "I can never do something like that".

*sigh* Maybe I need to sketch more. We've been doing something called gesture drawing in my illustration class (it was also a part of my intro art classes last year). Although it does help with anatomy and motion, I hate it because it just embarrasses me to let anyone see it because it looks so messy, like something a young child would draw. But maybe it's what I need.  I really don't know.
