Damn it’s been awhile. My first month of classes is over and somehow I’m still functioning, though, I have been swamped with work lately. Don’t get me the wrong, I enjoy doing the readings and stuff, I’m always up for more knowledge but…

Psych1010 has been boring; it’s only been stuff that I already learned about statistics, Freud and the scientific method. I’m hoping it doesn’t stay like this otherwise I may not be able to stay awake in class.

Biol1010 has been a bit tedious; my prof jumps around a lot during the lectures and it’s hard to follow sometimes. One minute he’s talking about genetically modified vegetable like broccoli and the next it’s something about cell structure and bacteria. I already turned in my first lab report and the second lab was simple enough, there isn’t a formal write-up this time.

Math1505…bleh…the lectures are easy enough to understand, but I haven’t done a single question in the textbook. I know I’m just setting myself up for failure *sigh* I’ll try to work harder thought!

Huma1400 is the most enjoyable class I have. The lectures are interesting, the tutorials are stimulating and the prof is pretty easy going though he makes the stupidest jokes - most of which no one gets until he explains them. I would like him to stop joking about pop quizzes though, it detracts from my sanity every time he says pop quiz on the reading and then once he gauges everyone’s reactions laughs and says it’s just a joke.

I have an assignment to do for this class, a critical analysis of a few selected readings from the Analects. Chinese culture and society is interesting and all but I can’t wait until after Christmas when we start with Japan!

JP1000 is lot’s of work! As in, “oh crap, how many new words did we have to learn for today?” But it’s fun. I’m having the time of my life, though I’m pretty sure my tests aren’t going to go well - I tend to choke when it comes to tests, especially those of an oral nature *shudder* I have a presentation coming up soon that I have to work on - no scripts or cue cards allowed…

Other than academics I’ve joined JISA (Japan International Student Association) and I’m looking forward to the events that they’re planning. Plus they provide help for Japanese language students, which is the main reason I joined.

I’ve also joined the Kendo club and damn it all, it’s just as hard as it looks - my first practice was last weekend and my arm was reduced to jello by the end of it. My hand was shaking so much I couldn’t even uncap my water bottle - pathetic right?

But it was the most fun I’ve had working up a sweat and killing my muscles that I’ve had in a long time. There was practice last night but I didn’t go. My bio lecture ended at 10pm and practice starts at 10 and goes until 11:30pm.  Since I was up since 6am and had class at 9:30 this morning, I decided I’d rather not keel over from exhaustion. My next practice is tomorrow morning and I’m practically jumping out of my skin in anticipation…or I would be if I didn’t feel so headachy.

Other than Kendo, I signed up for an archery workshop (mandatory before joining the club it’s on Monday from 9:30 to 11:00pm or something like that so…yeah I just hope I have enough energy to last all day. But I am excited about it; I’ve wanted to do Kyudo for a while now. Western archery is ok but I have an obsession with Japan, if it wasn’t clear enough already *grin*

On another note…it’s October! You know what that means right? Yep, you guessed it, Halloween! Autumn is my favorite time of year and lucky me, Halloween falls on a Saturday this year. Sometime later I’ll probably write a whole post about All Hallows Eve, but for now I just wanted to mention that the Anime North people are holding their second Doujinka Festival, which I’m planning on going to.

Coinciding with the Doujinka Festival is the Anime North/JCCC Halloween Dance, which I won’t be going to; I even shudder at the thought, though I imagine lots of people will find it fun.

Date: Saturday October 31, 2009

Time: 3:00pm Doujinka Festival and selected programming 7:00pm Halloween Dance

Admission: $10 standard or $8 for those who either have a JCCC membership or went to AN09 (con badge must be shown for reduced price)

Location: Japanese Canadian Cultural Center (JCCC) 6 Garamond Court, Toronto, ON M3C 1Z5

I have some other stuff to mention but not right now, I’m suddenly feeling rather peckish and am going to go raid the pantry.
