I started teaching myself to crochet last summer from some old patterns of my mums. After the holiday it got put aside, but I have decided to pick it up again to make some baby blankets for my friends who are pregnant. However I've hit a problem. When I'm designing something, it genreally depends on how I want the material to be in the finished item.

But for normal crocheting I put the hook through both the loops. (apart from on the first row working from a chain of course.

Some mmore advance patterns call for you to use just the front loops. This is generally when you are making a mock rib. (like a coff or a rib on a beanie hat)

This is just a simple pattern, just one stitch throughout so I'm going to go with under both loops. I'll see how it goes over the weekend and will maybe take a photograph to show you.

It'd be great to se it.

i was inspired and dragged my crocheting out and did some last night.

in fact I started redesigning a double blanket which I started when the divorce did. It will look much better now i think!

I'm so impressed with crocheting. I don't know why my mother didn't teach me it as well as knitting as a child. At the rate I'm going I may have most of the blanket finished over the weekend, which will then just leave me to worry about the border which is a little bit more complex.

My Mum taught me how to knit but didn't teach me how to crochet. She said it was too hard to follow crochet patterns.

I've always found crochet much easier and more satisfying though and do it more than knitting these days. I prefer knitted socks to crocheted ones though.
